New topic for "Music Video Guide"

Post by Nemoxs » Tue Jul 29, 2003 8:52 am

Not that anyone cares, but Phade gave me Full approvel yesturday to go ahead and finish the guide for the org...

Percentage Complete 87%

Now I need to take screen shots, write a letter, split it all up into sections, and see what I can do about getting adobe premiere 6.5 to continue the guide into 6.5 (right now it's only 6.0),

Other than that I guess I still have to get my girlfriend to spell check it (I'm horrbile at english, you guys wouldn't wanna read it with mine, *shivers*) and it'll all be good.

Using virtual dub
Using Windows media player to rip music
Using PSX:MC to rip music
Using DVD Dcyrpter
Using Dvd2Avi
Using Adobe 6.0
Using Tmpg
Using a-m-v.org

And I think soemthing about an editoral about NOT making the same ol' video you see everywhere else will be someone in there.

Hmmm, as a lot of stuff here is covered in the current guides, I'd actually appreciate it if people could let me know what is wrong with the guides so that I can make changes than a new guide be made. At the moment my focus is in taking the information that is there at the moment and making it more presentable and easier to access by the less technically minded. The current way avisynth is documented is really sloppy because you have to read so many different pages.

I like the idea of adding PSX:MC information and use of dvd decrypter is going to be implemented in the next guide revision (due late sept - working on currently).

One thing I will note is that if you are writing anything in a Premiere 6.0 guide that is covered in the manual it will be frowned upon as it encourages people to pirate the software. Premiere comes with a really good manual that covers its functions very well, so I'd be interested in what other parts could be written in a guide.

AD, maybe you should add a small and simple guide to the different catagories of video. What specifically does drama/action/parody/etc imply? I can't tell you how many times people have misinterpreted the catagory "character profile". I know it sounds simple, but then again, so does uploading a video to the org, and people can't seem to figure that one out without help either

actualy AD, i dont think its at all your guide, i think its lack of understanding on the part of the reader. its just a step above the linkinballz makers, and that makes them not want to read it. if this guied is aimed at the total ragin noob, then maybe it could be a gatway guide to yours.

I agree.. in that.. I fully disagree with some of the things being covered.

Something I *would* like to see, however, is a list/tutorial for all the stupid little quirks that we encounter while using the programs.

For example:

- the SetMemory(#) issue with a script...
- In Premiere, you can't export the video unless you click on the timeline...
- In Premiere, sometimes you need to click the title of a file over in the file bin for it to show up in the preview window...

Stuff like that would be EXTREMELY helpful. I don't think there NEEDS to be anything else written; the current guide(s) do MORE than a fine enough job. Also... personally... I'd rather read the guides coming from people who are actually working with the stuff on a pretty huge basis, like Ian and Justin...

It sounds rather ridiculous to write an entirely new guide when, yes, some things can just be clarified and added-to in the PRE-EXISTING one...

I'm working on it ^^;;;

It's something I have half written but I'm a little busy at the moment. There's going to be a large guide revision with this included - but it probably wont be until after AWA.

Premiere Pro is going to be interesting too :)

I was thinking about "simplifying" the current guides a while back, but A&E chewed me out from what I was going to do...

You're gonna get chomped by a lot of newbs who don't care about anything but themselves [self centered fools] and just ignore your guide section that says "things being overdone"... (being the smart and lucky n00b that I was, I always gunned for HIGH Originality and even now, I still do... :D )

I'll definitely keep your guide in mind. You are doing what I failed to do...

for this...

/me salutes

And for me personally, if a newbie DOES listen to you even slightly and creates ONE LESS Linkin' Bark Z vid (sounds weird I know), I'll applaud your efforts.

I was thinking of making a Premiere Digital FX guide [and hopefully, with all your help, an After Effects guide] but I don't know where to start... (we need a guide on how to write a guide for this site! )

Those of you who are interested in digital FX, [good ones, not randomly spastic badly timed canned transtioned krap] drop me a line on aim or preferably, icq... I don't mind helping at all... Though I be busy...

ohh yeah! Looks great so far. I love the multi-timeline idea, and of course, the real time editing. :D

As for the guide, like everyone has said, it is pointless to regurgitate something that has been said and done and very detailed in all aspects.

AD, the only "problem" I see with the guide is that it is rather messy. I mean, sometimes you're at the end of the guide, on the how to compress your video, then all of a sudden you bring up a point that should be noted and send the person back to the middle, beginning of the guide. It confused me a couple of times and made me even lazier. Eventually I sat down and read through it, but not everyone would do that. That's really the only "problem" I see in the guide.
