Acting like anime characters

Post by Lone Wolf » Sat Jul 26, 2003 6:58 pm

Do any of you find yourselves purposefully acting like a certain anime character? I have found that several characters have a certain lifestyle that I couldn't help but imitate. I've also had situations happen to me that were similar to situations that happened to a character. I'd see how that character would handle that situation, then see if it would work for me. Sometimes it works, too.

More gay than the gayest homosexual. And that's saying a lot, because there are a LOT of gay homosexuals out there.
I'm out...

HOMOSEXUALS ARE GAY!

Are you going to argue the truth of that statement?

There's nothing gay about it. ^_^;; The truth is good anime characters have a great deal of depth to them, and the great ones have as much 'character' as any celebrity you'll see as a teenager. People copy or follow celebrities all the time, using their manerisms, etc. The only difference here is that with an anime character you usually don't have to worry about that person's reputation being sullied later when he/she is found raping someone or smashing in a car window in a drugged up rage. If nothing else, anime characters are 'safe' as role models. And from a writing perspective, the easiest way to learn character interpretation is to think from the perspective of that character. It's actually quite common. People who debate about anime characters obviously see them as having depth. I've seen people who will go on for hours trying to rationalize why a certain character did something strange in an anime. It might be a little fanatical when you start dressing or talking like an anime character, but adopting little manerisms is pretty common. :?

Heh, I've found myself copying Hiei a bit when I see someone or something that's too stupid to correct. I tend to roll my eyes and mutter 'idiot' under my breath before sitting back and enjoying the spectacle of stupid people. ^_^ It's actually quite fun.

And keep in mind, many anime characters were based off real people, so by imitating them, you are in essence immitating a real person, or an aspect of the creator that was put into the character.

or your imitating several people, since i wouldn't think it to be to unusual for a creator to take all kinds of qualities from a bunch of peopel and manifest them in one character.

Yep, that's what I mean. Most of the manerisms people immitate from anime characters are ones that can be found in a number of real people. So it isn't excatly the character you're imitating - it's the 'habit' or mix of real habits into a persona that relates to you. ^_^
