Best serious: Fushigi Yugi (gotta show some love for the soap opera)

Best comedy: Excel Saga

Best serious: Hellsing (I think it's pretty serious) OR Kenshin OVA Reminescense. Reminescense is fucking serious.
Best comedy: Ranma ½ or Kenshin TV (not in all episodes, but its still fucking funny)

VanDread - funny and serious and sex appeal all in one series
Love Hina - Nuff said
Narue no Sekai - some very funny and very serious parts in one series

I haven't seen the real comedy anime titles, but I have two that I consider funny:

Haunted Junction
Labyrinth of Flames

^_^ Of course parts or Rurouni Kenshin (series, not ova) and Yu Yu Hakusho can get laughs from me, as well.

Funny: Ai Yori Aoshi(had its moments, though not exactly PURe comedy)

Serious: Trigun(same as above in parenthesis)

meh i suppouse that before kyoto there were some funny eps but i wouldnt say its the funniest anime :D
