Except that defeats the whole purpose of all this work. I need to save a copy of the files that are in the area I can't currently access (didn't work Kthulhu). If I can save a copy of them to CD or something, then I could care less if Win XP is farked, I'd gladly wipe the drive out and re-install the operating system.Timelessblurr wrote:I say you should give up and cut you loses and refomate you HD. This is probably the dumbest question I'll ask this year, but since it's Windows XP, I'll do it anyway. You did try a system recovery before you removed your hard drive, didn't you? To reset the user settings and restore the computer's original formats? That wouldn't affect any of your files, but would reset the user information. If it locks up before you can get to the setup menu (F2?) and then the recovery menu (F8 - maybe F10), then nevermind.

It didn't work, Arigatomyna, but thank you for input.
EK, what you suggested worked...sorta. I can now access "Jonathan". The files in it are readable (i.e. ntuser.dat) but all of the other folders within "Jonathan" are still unaccessable (even when attempting the same thing that got "Jonathan" to open up.) It is a step forward, though, thank you very much.

I'm so happy
I finally got it to work. *Stupid XP* The whole problem was I needed to disable simple file sharing. After I did that, I could go to the Security tab within properties, authorize the user's, set their access level, and apply the settings to all files and folders within that folder.
With simple file sharing on, I couldn't get to the security tab.
/me kicks XP
