Using instrumental music (except in the case of pieces that have been ruined by Disney's Fantasia and the like) would offer an opportunity to tell an original story without having the viewer distracted by the words in the song. But I haven't found the right combination of music and storyline yet.
I just have to chime in as a viewer saying that this is a fantastic idea, and very creative. I'd love to see what happens with the project. 8)

my next video after i finish my Spirited Away vid will probably be with both the Evangelion movies (er the DVD's) with Albinoni Tomaso - Adagio. if anyone has ever heard that song you know it's something like you'd hear at a really sad funeral.

i dont know about hour long techno/rave songs. without flucuation in style or music, it could get boring after the first 10 minutes.

My suggestion:

an hour long amv would give you more then enough time to tell some pretty good stories or in some cases, to summarize a really long series.

I would suggest not naming it "Mission Improbable 3" since someone is already in charge of the Mission Improbable Series and it would be quite rude to usurp the title from them. Just my suggestion.

Go for it man, though I would suggest if you are doing an hourlong AMV, don't do techno, but maybe tell a story with the music, rather than just randomness.

Here are some thoughts I've had about the hour long AMVs.

1) If it were to be to the tune of techno/dance, then the video will be random clips from different anime (15+).

2) I (we) could tell a story with a few anime series and taylor the music to fit the video

3) I (we) could do summaries of anime series/movies and taylor the music to fit the anime

I like the telling a story idea. As the story unfolds, the music changes to reflect the mood of the video, meeting-falling in love-battles-resolution-ending...etc. If it were a joint project, I wouldn't take the MI title because it has already been used.

Why not take the story version a little farther and instead of it one long summerization of a particular anime create your own story with the use of several different animes. They do it in movie trailers, splice one anime with another to tell a story, Eva-man would be a good example of that.

Only problem with that would be the absense of actual words and the fact that it would transcend the AMV idea and create the Anime Movie Video idea. ie, not really an AMV like a parady.. only a silent Musical, story motivated, Parady with many blurred songs smashed togather in a DDR aspect, to make something that I have yet to see. Something that lays between the boundries of an AMV and makeing your own anime but isn't either of them.

*Drums fingers* Unique? Or has that been done before?

All I can say is - this is interesting. I never realized there were so many people here who are for long AMV's, not against them. :)
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

When you run long AMV projects like M:I, they kinda grow on ya.
