I've been wanting to check out the top 10 list, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. If it's good for lowering your average, then I may just run over there now and scope out some potential victims. That could just brighten my day right up.

But if you want to lower your score, Dwchang, you can always op one of mine. ^_~ I try not to let my friends op my vids - it feels wrong when they don't know much about amv-making and can only judge according to 'like/didn't like'. But I've noticed a few people don't worry much about that (I think I know who you're talking about), so there's not much to be done about it.

Mm, links! I'm going to put those on my op list. 8)

Uhm...if anything *most* videos in the top 10% will raise your averages. Some of the best videos are listed (thus the name). However, as Earthcurrent has implied, it's not perfect since people can just op-cheat. I might also add that I have seen quite a bit of this lately...it seems to be accelerating based on the good videos being dropped off the top 10% and the "bad" (IMO) videos that are in it.

As for opinions, I'd like to, however I'll be honest, I have quite a few already in the queue. Lately people have been, surprisingly, requesting me to op things which is really odd. I might also add that I need to work on my NES video and my AWA video...so busy busy :-D

Heh, that's fine. I'm not in too big a hurry with ops right now, but I *do* need to lower my averages (given *and* received). I didn't bother with the 10 list mostly because I thought they'd be good, but I'll definitely need to go looking at it now. It might prove...interesting. ^_^;

Not to be rude, but what is everyone in such a rush to lower their averages. No one ever said you had to be the same # as the global averages you know. I just grade what I feel is right and if I'm above the averages (which I am)...oh well I'm 1 of 20,000+ people and thus get averaged out.

As for yourself, looking at your Averages Given, if you wanna get technical, you actually need to increase your numbers since all of them are below the global averages (If you go to your profile, all your numbers are in "purple" which denotes below the global average).

But again, I don't know why everyone is in such a hurry to lower their averages. There's no tie to respect based upon what you rate...well not that I know of. If anything, it scares an editor when they see that you've reviewed their video (i.e. a reputation for being harsh).

That's just my two cents though.

If a vid has 15+ reviews and is in the upper portion of the top 10 list, it probably deserves to be there. If a video has 5 or fewer reviews and is in the top 10 of the top 10% a flag of suspicion is raised, especially if I've never heard of the editor. If the review has 10 reviews, I might look into who wrote the reviews. If familiar names are in the list I'm not too concerned. If it is a bunch of odd non-familiar names...again, flags. If the editor has a DBZ related name, I am also pretty suspicious, unless they are a frequent character to the forums (yeah, I'm profiling...but it usually works).

Well, sadly, I agree with you. In fact, looking at the video we were talking about. I looked at the profiles of the people who reviewed his video and almost all of them gave all 10's and almost all of them have only given one review.

It's sad that people are this concerned with scoring and make AMVs into some sort of competition. I mean, the only person they're fooling is themselves...and probably not even that. I mean can they honestly see their video as say the #10 video out of 30,000 (higher than the top 1%)? This is of course assuming that they've seen some "good" videos. I personally would hate to be ranked higher than I think I deserve...well not so much if it's closer to what I think....but we're talking a "D" video rated as an "A+."

Do people not understand this thing called honest and credibility?

Forgot to mention, that video above *does* have over 15 reviews, so I guess it *does* deserve to be there :-D

Good points to look for, EC, thanks. I figured number of reviews would be a big clue.

And I know my scores are lower than the global average, Dwchang, but when I said I wanted to lower them, what I really meant is that I need to find some vids made by people who aren't as *good*. I like to keep a range of skilled editors, and right now even the newbies I'm doing ops for are getting better - and they're just going to keep getting better, and I want to keep my range of videos. I like to look at 'bad' videos along with good, it helps me keep in mind exactly what makes the good videos so good. If that makes any sense. :?

It does. Hopefully you won't be looking at my videos when trying to look at "bad" videos :-P
