Is it just me? (possible Harry Potter spoilers)

So sue me, I'm a Harry Potter fan, and I'm wondering if I'm the only one who thinks these are so NOT kids' books anymore

I won't spoil any plot for those interested in reading it (especially since the newest book just came out this weekend), but for those who have been reading, is it just me or are these books starting to read more like Stephen King novels? It's crazy. The fourth one made my head spin, and the newest one has cracked my mind into a skillet and made brains-in-a-basket out of it.

Let's just say when you have disembodied voices coming from the walls, a would-be insane serial killer, people cutting off their own hands, and a teacher who punishes her students by making them write in their own blood, I think it's safe to say there's some downright scary goodness going on.

Any thoughts? And if you're just going to do a drive-by "Harry Potter sucks", I'll just tell you "piss off" in advance, thanks

I dunno...The Order of the Phoenix really isn't as SCARY as many other books aimed towards adults are. While there are some elements that seem rather creepy, they're presented in a manner that doesn't make them seem incredibly offensive.

I have been many more times scared by Michael Chrichton's Sphere than by the latest Potter book. But that's just me.

Uh, sorry, don't know what that means either.

I'm not a fan of Potter, but I don't mind it. Suppose I'm fine with it as long as you don't have some jerk pop out and declare it the greatest literary achievement of the past century (which, really, it is not).

So, I'll just leave the Potter fans to be happy with what they have to be happy with

i haven't read the newest boook, but like you said, the newer books are more geared towards the "horror" field.

they're also longer, but if that gets kids to read, then more power to them.
