Fund Raising
Here is a wierd question
what is considered acceptable fun raising tactics in AMVs?
the org uses the donation model, which seams to be the easiest on the concience, if a bit scattered in coverage...
what about other methods? what crosses the line, what does not?
if donation is it... where does it cross the line from descreet to anoying?

Are you talking about raising funds for sites like this or for individuals? I would frown on anyone who says, "Give me money to make AMVs!" rather than just accepting donations.
My favorite video: Grilled Steak Trigun I LOVE THE COPS! Rargh!

hum... mainly thinking out loud....
it could be various reasons and circumstances
like
an AMV editor trying to raise money for R2 DVDs
an AMV editor trying to travel to a far away con
an AMV editor trying to raise money for new equipment
an AMV contest cordinator trying to raise money for equipment or prizes
an AMV event cordinator trying to raise money for a special event or special contest
an AMV archiver trying raise money to service equipment, or upgrade equipment

Personally, I would draw the line where it crosses over from the "event" (or whatever purpose / cause needs the funds) being in use by one person to being in use by many individuals.
If it's for one person to buy source material for a music video, I don't see any justification in my helping them buy it. Their creating a music video isn't helping myself, or anyone else in particular, in any way.
I know certain people have asked for money to buy source material, and that, deep down, pretty much disgusts me. The rest of us have to pay our way for our anime, and I think everyone else should be on the same playing field. This isn't a cheap hobby, and we all knew that from the start.
If it's for the upgrading of, say, necessary equipment (such as your own, Quu), that's another story. You're helping many people with what you do, and it's not a self-centered purpose. A convention's contest may or may not happen (at all) without the materials in question. We're all effected and helped by such materials, and helping (via money) is one way we're able to "pay back" (in a sense) what help WE'VE received.
Then again, that's me :D.

I would say: Again, maybe, so long as there are protections in place that if the event did not go through I'd get my money back...Quu wrote:an AMV event cordinator trying to raise money for a special event or special contest
I would say: Depends on the archiver. Phade, yeah, he has a proven track record. For others, probably not.Quu wrote:an AMV archiver trying raise money to service equipment, or upgrade equipment

Make a DVD, do it all up real professional like, charge $7 for it so you make a 30 cent profit. Oh wait, apparently that's not acceptable at all around here.
