On the way to AMV greatness!

Post by Radman » Wed Jun 18, 2003 4:34 pm

So for all you AMV greats out there (and maybe even the not-so-greats) where are the best places to get yer videos shown? In my knowledge, Anime Cons are THE best place, but which ones? Which anime con(s) are best to enter if you're a newbie, and which one(s) are best to enter if you're a veteran?

The best con to submit a video to is the one that you can attend ^_^
But really, if you are just a newbie, it may not be worth it submitting to a con, unless your video is actually pretty damn good. I'd recommend smaller, less known cons though, as there usually isn't very much competition at those. Other one I'd recommend is the AWA Expo contest.

Mm, and if you're a newbie, how do you know if your video is good enough to enter into a con? Just curious. ^_~

Ask your friends. If they say "not bad", your video sucks :?

If you think it sucks, and everyone else tells you to STFU, then it's probably good enough.

From what I can gather, your video is only good enough to enter a con if you send it in with a $40 check. :D

I'm with Z. Find a con near you, preferrably a smaller con, submit it there, and go and support the con and watch the contest. You'll be able to get a feel for how it goes over by being there yourself and seeing the audience reaction, and most small cons love to have more entries, especially from people who are there in attendence. It is a good idea to check with your friends or other AMV editors to get their opinion of the video as well- but if you're really confident enough to submit it, go for it.

Indeed.

I was so not confident in myself, but I sent one of my videos anyway. I was literally shaking in fear of how it would suck so bad sine WuWu's trailers were be sent to the same con.

However, luck prevailed and I won "Best of Show" with "Fear Dot Hack".

Woo. The con was FITcon. It was the only con I ever sent an AMV to because it was so close I sent it in thinking I could actually go and see it. My parents were dumbasses and wouldn't let me go. >.>

But atleast I feel cool winning something for something I thought sucked ass.

The toughest critic is yourself. ~_^

Thank you very much for your opinions. I shall make sure to take this advice to heart.

NEVER be afraid to just go for it!

Besides, if you lose, you just join all the other people who submitted good videos that didnt win either. Winning isnt everything ^ ^;
