I'm the opposite - I feel bad *while* I make the video, but I'm very happy once it's done.
Then after that initial glow wears off, I realize what awesome stuff other people have done and I realize that I'll never be as skilled at this as they are.
I don't get the "this is just a pointless nothing" thought, though. I mean, I don't make AMVs to change the world. I make them to express myself and have fun, and to plug anime and music that I like. I don't take any fanwork seriously (I used to do fanfiction, same idea).
They're hobbies. I think some people make AMVing into The Meaning Of Life, and that makes most people unhappy. Because yes, it is just a way to do something spiffy-looking, express yourself, entertain people, and have fun. If you go looking for some ultimate meaning of life in this, you will end up discouraged.
If however you go in to have a good time... you won't be disappointed.
That's how I try to approach it. Sure, I get attacks of "damn, this looks horrible compared to ____", but I don't feel like a failure as a person because of it. It's not such a big thing. That is paradoxically very freeing.
