My 2 cents:

Here's how it all started, a little company called Pioneer decided to dub dbz as a children's show. Later on a little company known as Funimation decided to continue that whole shindig. The show went on Cartoon Network and became wildly wildly popular with the 10-15 year old audience. Thus, most dbz amvs are made by people within this age range who happen to be very casual editors (meaning they were like, "This seems fun, Ill try it once"). Its that simple, younger people with less experiance and no real goals of ascension in talent are the creators of the vast majority of dbz amvs, and thus many are quite poor.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

Pioneer has never dubbed anything "DragonBall"...

Pioneer has merely been the distributer for the first two seasons of DBZ and the first three DBZ movies on VHS / LaserDisc / DVD...

... and their license runs out August 31st...

Everything DB in the US (sans Harmony Gold 80's dub of DB movies 1 and 3) has been 100% FUNimation.

And the fact that people continue to bitch about DB being stupid and having tons of bad videos continues to mind boggle me.

You're kicking and spitting on a horse that's been dead for a while, now. You can leave it alone. Some people like the show, some people don't. There are good videos and there are bad videos. Get over it.

Go download the ones that have been mentioned (plus a few others), and take the time to e-mail the creators and tell them what a great job they've done. They'll appreciate it.

DiC handled "Sailor Moon"; they never had anything to do with DBZ.

You may be thinking of Saban, who was FUNimation's distributer during their original run in syndication on television. They left after season two.

doomrider... e-mail response coming soon... sorry d00d...
