Cowboy Bebop is good to look at for art design, and animation.

Not really a retort, but I find it funny around 1994 - 1999, the same company beat itself in production values 3 times in a row.

IIRC Macross Plus was the most expensive until Escaflowne and Escaflowne until Cowboy Bebop. I have no idea about right now. Kind of funny...it's almost like the studio just wanted to continually raise the bar...the bar they placed the year before. Then again, I assume if you make shows of this calibre, you'll get funding easily.

Obviously, a lot of the anime movies are very well-done technically. There's rarely a bad technical job among them. Same for OAV's.
Cowboy Bebop movie and X would be good enough to list, no?
With TV... tough to pick. Bebop and Escaflowne were well-done, that's for sure....

But of course, it's not the technique, it's how you use it that counts. S

Those are all really good examples, especially Cowboy Bebop.

I'd just add FLCL as a good choice. It switches to some pretty impressive different syles at times (thinking of the "manga" scene in ep. 1 in particular). Plus it has one of the best soundtracks I've heard in any anime.

I would like to mention

Infinite Ryvius - Story and voice acting is really good. This one had quite a bit of edge to it.
X/1999 - story sucked, artwork is pretty tho.
Now & Then, Here & There - I liked the art/art style. Also the story is very grim. :O Yiah for depression.

List of good technical anime wouldn't be complete without VHD: Bloodlust. Or even the original VHD for that matter.

Another good one to look at is Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack (*special edition DVD....WANT!*). And I'll throw in the Utena Movie, Perfect Blue and the X TV series.

For a combination of story, animation, and music, I highly recommend "Chiyoko Millennial Actress." It's by the same group that did Perfect Blue. Beautiful directing, stunning animation, and a great story.

I think that Blue Submarine No. 6 is the best anime i ever had seen. Even though it was short. If it was made into a series instead of a few short hours of watching it would be the best. It had good designs and sound. Good characters to. But wasnt a complete happy ending which was a good idea to have. Has anyone else seen it. :?:

FLCL - yes Doctor, with you on this one. FLCL is not so much uber-technical as it is genius in the use of various techniques - some, like the manga scenes, completely minimalistic. FLCL doesn't have the sheer detail of CB movie or scale of X/1999, but it arguably betters the two with smart use of what it does have to offer.

8)

I agree that Blue Submarine no.6 and FLCL are both excellent anime's.

I thoroughly enjoyed both of them and though the animation, the story, and characters were very well done.

I also think Vandread was excellent in anime. characters, culture development, and technilogy. It looks good, To me has an interseting story, and has good flow and interesting characters. I cared whether or not someone was going to die or not.

That what defines it for me. Does the anime look good, does the story draw me in and make me anxious to see what is going to happe next? Do I care what happens to the characters?
