Has anyone had them out? Do you have any advice? Anything to ease my fears? Oh and they're not knocking me out. I'm just getting nitrous (sp?).

I'm really not looking forward to this :?
I had all 4 of mine out back in September and it went off without a hitch. I did opt to get knocked out however, so once they put me on the IV drip, I was out like a light soon after. The next thing I know, they're all out and I'm getting walked to the car by my mom because I'm too groggy to drive. So it didn't really kick in until after the local anesthesia started wearing off. Well, that and the bleeding. My teeth were apparently impacted pretty good, so I bled for most of the day. But I followed the doctor's post-surgery directions and had my sutures out after a week. My dentist told me that the holes healed perfectly during my checkup last week too.

I think the worst part of the wisdom teeth (aside from the throat infection and tooth aches that led up to me getting them removed) was not being able to eat the foods I wanted to for a couple weeks. But all in all, it's a pretty routine procedure so don't worry about it.

I got the IV when I had my wisdom teeth pulled too. It was pretty interesting.

Give me a small IV
"You feel anything yet?"
"No"
Another small IV
"Anything yet?"
"No"
A bigger (2x the size) IV
"Anything yet?"
"ZzzZZzzZ"

Nyaaaa...
*spasms*
All this talk about dental surgery in graphic detail....nyeeer....its makin me feel funny! And I've just lost the feeling in my fingertips, which only happens if I'm seriously grossed out! I'm 20, and I don't have any wisdom teeth (that I know of) but I'll find out for sure on the 19th of this month. If I do, IM GETTIN THE GAS BABY!! I don't mind needles, but they aren't coming anywhere NEAR my mouth with one. Thats where I draw the line. I mean, what If they slipped, and drove it all the way in, or what if it snapped off? Or they got murderous and drove it through the back of your mouth into your brainstem? You'ld be fucked then!

And please, no more talk of chunkyness in the tube and swallowing lots of blood and gum-flaying and hacking at teeth it might make me....

I've had mine out for a while now. The surgery itself was easy because they used gas to knock me out. After the surgery, there was pain, but I had pills, so it wasn't too bad. I had no problems with it myself.

I still have mine in and I am 20 years old. Doesn't give me any problems so there has been no need to remove them (I only have 2 which does help) Heck I still haven't had so much as a cavity yet.

Also dentists automatically tell you to remove them. This is because most people do need them removed and also it makes them money. Same with ther braces thing (my teeth are actuallt straight and they tried to say I needed them, hahahah) They told me when I was 14 to do it. Well I had no insurance and did not live with my mother so I said let's wait and see if it actually causes any real problems.

But I don't intend on removing my wisdom teeth unless they cause me problems. And the risk goes down of that as they come in and aren't causing any major problems yet.

So if only 10% of people keep the then i am rather lucky. I also heard females are less likely to be able to keep them then their male counterparts so that is rather interesting.
