Criticism is a very, very good thing. Personally, I get twitchy when nobody helps to point out things I could do to improve, because I don't want to plateau. You can improve merely by practice, but having somebody spot you, catching things you didn't notice, is extremely valuable.
And let me say that this community seems really good about taking criticism. Honestly. As a whole, you rock. I've been in communities where people will flame you or burst into tears if you tell them their work isn't OMGTHEBESTESTTHINGEVAH. And I've seen others where they get very, very hostile and start attacking you and your own projects if you dare find anything less than perfect with theirs.
I have yet to see any of that fit-throwing around here. It's very refreshing.
As for giving... You know, constructive/detailed criticism is a holy grail anywhere you go. I've heard this in every medium I've worked in or asked about, from writing to art and everything in between. So having said that, I would say this is more or less on par. Of course it'd be nice to have more detailed/analytical opinionating, but I understand why so few people have the patience to do it. (I'm too lazy to write really good writeups myself.)
So. I think that's what the original post was getting at, and if not, then HEY!! I just created a topic. Whaddyaknow.
