Well, all but 3 videos. Faces of Death happens to be one of them. An old classic but Phade told me it was too violent to be put on the server (points off for that rule Phade :? )

For now, I will see how this Dangling Carrot works and if I'm satisfied by its performance, I will send in my share of donation.
Phade let you upload without paying? tsk tsk....shame on you Phade :-P Oh well at least a bunch of videos people are probably looking for are now up and that's the point of this whole operation.

The whole point of the GD and DC are to have hosting for those who can't afford it, and donations from as many as possible to pay for said hosting. This way, no one gets left out in the cold when they want to get their vid out to other people.

I don't care about the sort-of-sucky vid quality, that's still one of my favorite AMVs of all time (and to think my best friend had to force me to watch it because of my intense hatred of Sailor Moon....)

Anyway, I uploaded mine to the Carrot as soon as I was allowed. And yes, I had them hosted with two very generous and patient people (Ean of Deathgatestudios and Mike Gallart of October20). If they want to discontinue hosting since the local service is up, I don't blame them.

I put my latest AMV, Tsukasa's Story, up on local for a few reasons.

It's never been hosted before, and I have hosting like with a million different users(good people, I must add) that I thought it'd be good to stop sucking up their bandwidth.
As for not putting up any of my other vids on local.. It's either because they suck, or are on Tripod.
I don't want to clutter up the carrot with bad or already hosted videos.

I mean, it seems there's a lot of space for AMVs on the server, but after a few months(at the least) that space isn't going to be enough.

I know for a fact that 90% of people that first join this site look for a spot to upload their videos, and when the found that you had to host them theirselves, they were surprized/displeased. (I know I was :?).

With that said, about one new person joins the org every day. Usually one to two new vids pops up every day, too. If every noob uploaded their first through whatever videos then the carrot's storage space would fill up dramatically....

.... Just something to think about.

I was lucky enough to have upload access from the very beginning, so my videos have been up for local download a month now. Since everyone doesn't have download access yet, I'll have to wait and see if the local downloads make any sort of dent in my regular bandwidth usage (I really don't know how much traffic I get from the .org). If anything, it'll at least make a difference when a new video is released, handling the usual .org rush that used to always kill me otherwise.
