i did however get to see one of his very first AMVs at AWA *corect me if im wrong Q, at least i think is was Q that showed it anyway* it was one he made using the two VCR method. to say the least, it looked like thos VCRs were under water before he ised them, but the video was simple and fun, bunny girls with guns and trendy 80s pop music. simple is superb.
That doesn't sound like one of his videos. His earliest videos (with the worst video quality) were El Hazard/Saber Dance and Miyu/Goldeneye. Those don't fit the description.

Here's a list of his videos: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... 4&start=62

I would say that a good video does one of two things (both to be a great video).

1. It is consistently clever in some way, be it timing, lyric matching, scene choice, effects, humor, etc.

2. It successfully conveys a strong feeling, mood, or story.

This is a good example of the second category. The video is very simple and straightforward but I like it because it handles the mood so well.
When I become an Evil Overlord my Legions of Terror will be an equal-opportunity employer. Conversely, when it is prophesied that no man can defeat me, I will keep in mind the increasing number of non-traditional gender roles.

It is my lifelong goal to make my dieing scream as horrible as possible.

If you use new music, MJ hates it :P

Getting back on topic, one thing that I always associate with a good video is when I watch something then think to myself, "Damn, I wish I thought of that!" I always like seeing new ideas and concepts, new music and anime. It's hard to pinpoint a definition anyhow. Like MJ said, "good" is subjective. Not everyone is going to like the same things someone else likes about a video. I've used this before, but a great example is Koop's "Euphoria," as viewed by my mother. She liked the ending because it calm. As I put it for her, "There's a fine line between intricate and busy." She didn't like the rest of the video that much because it was very flashy. Then again, she's old, so I'm suprised she didn't have a seizure  (I love you, mom)

No one can tell you what's good about a video or not. You've got to take leads from people and look on your own. Follow your interests. If you see an AMV cataloged using a song you like, check it out! It could be really awesome for you. On the flip side, someone else may hate it. I think the question shouldn't be "What makes a good AMV" as much as it should be "What do you like in an AMV."

*lights lighter* Well put, man.

Although that would necessitate knowing the difference between "my opinion" and "absolute fact", which tends to be a problem for this board...

It's natural though, the more you learn from MISTAKES, the better your videos should get ^_^
