Ideas for a "Best of AMV" DVD

I will very soon be mastering a DVD to show after opening ceremonies at Anime Central, and I'd like opinions which videos to put on it. I will have about an hour of time and have decided on about a half hour's worth so far, but I'd like ideas of what people would like to see...

These videos need not have been shown at or won at ACen before, but it is preferable. They also need not be amateaur (I plan to put on it at least one of the CLAMP music videos like Wish, CLAMP in Wonderland, or X^2). Submit your opinions here or shoot me an e-mail. I need to have this finished within the next couple weeks, so answer soon! I'm beginning to get submissions for the contest already, and I'll have to spend my free time on those soon...

I guess the best way for me to answer is for me to look at "My Favorite Videos."

-On Your Mark by Hayao Miyazaki: This is my absolute favorite AMV. No one can deny it's originality and creativity since he well..animated it. Also he tells a story (touching one at that) in six minutes.
-Odorikuruu by Jay Locke: I'm fairly sure you probably already have this one on there...yeah it's been overplayed, but you know the people at the con will like it regardless of what us creators think about it.
-Right Now Someone is Reading this Title by Tim Park: Another one "normal" fans can enjoy.
-Caffeine Encopium by Kevin Caldwell: I know someone's gonna flame me for bringing up a Kevin Caldwell vid, but you can't deny his uncanny timings.
-Memories Dance by Vlad G. Pohnert: Another con "favorite" since it is a Miyazaki tribute and you know con goers (and most anime fans for that matter) and Miyazaki.
-Endure by Tim Stair: I don't think many will agree with me on this one, but I absolutely love it for it's dramatic excellence. Not sure how it would fair to common con-goers though.
-Sappy Self-Indulgence by Hsien Lee: Another vid con-goers will love (especially the fangirls

-Shameless Rock Video by Ian Roberts: I don't think I need to explain why this should be shown

. Although it sure will make a lot of the videos in the con look sub-par (actually almost all these videos will

...damn you guys!!!)
-Failed Experiments in Video Edting by Elizabeth Kirkendall: Not sure how this would fair at Opening Ceremonies since mostly AMV creators can relate to this while others just go "huh?"
-Dragon Bebop Z by Ryan Molina: Not necessarily one of my absolute favorites, but it did do awesomely at ACen last year. I do feel sorry for the comedy entries this year after watching this

...then again I'm sure someone will make something awesome.

I think that alone is more than 30 minutes. I really wanted to put "My Iron Lung" or "With Every Light" By Hsien Lee and "Believe" by Kevin Caldwell, but I don't think they would do as well for "normal" con-goers. In particular, "With Every Light" is an awesome vid of pure emotion (or so I think it is), but it's not "fun" or "happy" like con-goers like.

Other than "Endure" though, I think the remaining vids would very well for "normal" con-goers since most of them are "fun/happy" or comedies which generally con-goers love.

I'd definitely add Vicbond007's "Cowboy Bebop 007" to that list- that should definitely go over well with a crowd. His "Shining Collection" is another good, fast-paced video a crowd would likely enjoy.
Wuwu (You Choose Sam, The Rest)'s "Eva-Man" would also likely go over well.
DJ Fritz's "Bebopin'" has also usually gone over quite well.
I would think "Believe" should go over fairly well- Daiundokai is fairly well known (and I believe, no pun intended, liked), and it's a damn good video.
Kwasek's "A Thousand Miles" is another I think would go over well, but it is a bit more on the sappy-romancish side.
Finally, I think it can be Dl'd now, Chris LaBianca's (Geode) "Brothers of Liberty" has always been well received.

And if you're feeling generous, you're always welcome to show any of mine 8) (I'll volunteer Daniel's as well

That's a good point Koop- however I don't believe he's going and therefore wouldn't be entering it. Also, having pretty much swept Katsu's awards, I would figure it would stand a good chance of being removed from being able to win an award at ACen (per the AMV contest rules) anyways.

That said, Koop does have a very good point- it probably is a good idea to at least try and contact the editors and clear showing their videos. This will obviously be more difficult for some of the videos (i.e., Caldwell's), but you should be able to get in touch with most. Though I don't think any will tell you not to show their videos, most will appreciate the courtesy of asking permission...

. The videos I have available are at best sub-par. The only video that I think *could* be good is one of my entries into the contest, so that's obviously out.

Wow, I'm sure glad this takes place on Friday since the contest is Saturday and these videos kick the crap out of mine

I agree with the Bebop one, but also agree with Koops point. As for Shining Collection, I like the video, but don't think it's all that or whatever cliche' term you'd like to use. I very much dislike sped-up footage (well sped-up to where the viewer can REALLY see it). It's good though...don't get me wrong.

Kwasek's "A Thousand Miles" is another I think would go over well, but it is a bit more on the sappy-romancish side.

As much as I love this video, it again has to do with the drama/romance aspects. I hate to say it, but most con-goers like comedies or fun videos. That's the reason I was hesitant on mentioning Believe and Endure. I think it's really hard for videos like those (and Transcending Love), which are excellent within our community, to go over well with con-goers.

Sucks for me since one of my entries is a romance video

. Oh well...

Yep, so true.. I find Drama is extreamly under appriciated.. But it's the same all over..Even in the movies Drama Wins the Awards but it's the action adventure / comdies that make the money and are more remembered by the general public... Kind of sad really since It wasn't like this always...

It wasn't? You mean movie making in general or AMVs? I'm guessing movies, since that's what you were talking about either way.

I would've added more Dramas to my suggestions, but it's just so hard when this is a con and well..I hate to say it, but you gotta go with crowd-pleasers (sellout to the crowd if you want to be negative about it).

It really sucks that's the case since I'm learning that my editing mindset is towards drama and romance. I'm doing an action and I just can't get it to work. It's hard when I'm not going for a message like Love or Faith and instead just quick cuts to a concept as simple as fighting (shrug)

I did however suggests yours not only b/c it's an awesome video artistically, dramatically, etc., but because Miyazaki is a crowd-pleaser. I think it'd be hard to go to a convention and find someone who hates Miyazaki.

I don't have anything to enter for Acen this year.

I would also recommend Enigma by Kamran Ahmadi. I don't think he would mind it being used since he's sorta out of the AMV groove for a while.
