Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
- Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
- Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
- When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
- Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Hopefully I'll have direct http and BitTorrent sorted out soon...

Um....
The problem with WinMX is:
1) Not everyone uses it
2) You can't always find something
3) With web hosting, the video is always readily available (so long as there aren't any problems) It's not like someone can just turn off the transfer like they can with WinMX.
True, some people may be able to find you video, but not everyone. THe best way to go is web hosting.

1 - True, though I'm surprised if it's that much of an issue;Rozard wrote:Um....

2- Is demonstrably not true, since my desktop is running 24x7 sharing the things;
3 - I'm very much aware of this, and merely lack boxen to host it on that aren't at the end of a 600k/128k cable modem - though this weekend should hopefully fix *that*...

About not being able to find something on WinMX...
I don't know if it works the same, but I know on KaZaA, just because you have something in your Shared Folder doesn't mean everyone in the world can access it. Hell, two years ago I only had my videos in KaZaA, and I had my roommate search for them on his computer. He couldn't find them Hell, we were in the same room, sharing the same university T1 line, and we couldn't access the other's KaZaA folders. How lame is that

He speakith the truth, you have to have guru status or something to get all your files out, at least on KaZaA. But I assume other fileshare software does something similar.Rozard wrote:About not being able to find something on WinMX...

The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

If you're willing to have WinMX open 24/7 I;d suggest just having an FTP. Then you can direct link without ANYONE having an issue in terms of finding it or downloading. I might also add that things like searching for your vid will really decrease the interest since well...most viewers are quite lazy.tomj wrote:1 - True, though I'm surprised if it's that much of an issue;Rozard wrote:Um....

FTP's a bugger to set up behind a masqueraded connection if I want to support passive ftp transfers, if not impossible - HTTP's certainly possible but I don't want to turn my cable modem into syrup. So I'll give someone a CD of things on Sunday, and hopefully that should be that...dwchang wrote:If you're willing to have WinMX open 24/7 I;d suggest just having an FTP.tomj wrote:1 - True, though I'm surprised if it's that much of an issue;Rozard wrote:Um....

When I had a server, I was moving around 1GB/day; 24 hrs transfer on this tariff is only 675MB.
Well, yes. This is what was annoying. >.>dwchang wrote:I might also add that things like searching for your vid will really decrease the interest since well...most viewers are quite lazy.
