why do you guys care? Don't you hate dubs already? Whats a butcher or two I mean they already made it bad for you guys by putting it in english right?
Not necessarily. Although I am fundamentally against watching a dub, I do not think all are bad. Let me explain, the Cowboy Bebop dub is pretty good as far as dubs go. However, since I like seeing things the original and intended way, I stay clear of dubs. Again, it's not bad (I mean I can even tolerate it and not scream!), but I wouldn't watch it.
Naaaw, my primary problem with dubs isn't that they are in English, per se, it's that the English actors don't seem to do as good a job as the Japanese actors much of the time (with exceptions, always with exceptions). Plus, with the Japanese version, you know the character's sound the way that the director intended them to sound. It's like watching the theater release vs. the director's cut. Same movie (series...), different feel.
Argh! I was going to say this! I guess it's not necessary since I say the same thing on the JAC newsgroup when this comes up (perhaps you stole it j/k).
As Chaos said, for me it's seeing and hearing things the way the director intended. I seriously doubt the Japanese Director came down to the states, handpicked the voice actors that he thought sounded like Rei, Misato or whatnot and then corrected them during the voice sessions. With the "original" version (of anything, not only anime), the director and original staff is there and their vision becomes a reality. In a dub, you get an American (or whatever country) director making changes as HE sees fit. I personally like seeing things the way the original creator/staff wanted it.
I honestly think something like Eva and Kenshin you miss out on little nuances that are implied in the sound of the voices, the sound of the words themselves (accents), etc.
The Kenshin dub really ain't half bad. I severely disliked Karou and Yahiko at first, but Yahiko really grew on me, and Kaoru is just kinda there.
Have you seen the sub? If not, I'd suggest watching both and seeing how accurate they are to the originally, intended voices. I think all of them are *very* off from the originals. I can't even point my finger at only one of them since all of them were off (IMHO). Now before you retort about not watching the dub, I am making a video to Kenshin and have had to deal with the dub while editing (since that's the default track ripped).
