Oh, by the way, I find it pretty interesting how you didn't reply to this thread for about 2 days then as soon as one person comes to defend you you came back 5 minutes later. Interesting...very interesting...

I love music. It's great. Without music, there would be no animemusicvideos.

Punk is a style more and more people are using in their videos. I've seen a MxPx video to Boys Be which is great! I've seen a Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon video to "The Rock Show" by Blink 182 which is amazing! It's good to see AMV makers like ourselves get into new genres of music.

Yeah punk does rule and i think whoever started the thing with the preps and jocks thinking they like punk music is a very true statement.I live in urban Pa where there are alot of rich abercrombie bitches and when they saw the fat lip video they wwre all like cool lets be like them and pull our socks up to our knees and jump up and down, that must be cool because they are punk so we can be punk too. I find it incredibly pathetic when posers try to pose off of something as true and underground as the punk genre and frankly it sometimes upsets me alot. Anyway check out AFI's earlier stuff along with Weezer and Saves the Day.

I take ex's silence to mean he's waiting for a good time to strike. And don't give me that I have a life bullshit. It's soooo lame. But then again it would suit you.

Err... I was in Baltimore for Otakon all weekend long...

"Strike" ? I don't get it. The difference is that you're viewing this all as a "war," where-as myself (and probably the majority of people) are simply seeing it as a *conversation* on a *message board*.
Mag Launcher wrote:And don't give me that I have a life bullshit.
Ya' know, you make this comment, and then I look at the times you're posting. Five minutes after me. It's like you're sitting there WAITING for me to say something. And don't say I'm "being full of myself," it's merely what it looks like when I see the times of posting. If I'm missing something, PLEASE let me know.

Mag, this is probably *exactly* what you want to hear, because it's going to get you the EXACT attention and response you're looking to get out of me...

But enough is enough. You're OBVIOUSLY trying to spill over the crap from the DBZ/web community over into here. You're doing it just to get a rise out of me (which you've said), and just to get your own kicks.

It's pointless. No-one else here CARES AT ALL. No-one wants to know what you think of me as a website maintainer, no-one wants to hear what you think of my writing style, no-one wants to hear the cliche adjectives that fanboys from three years ago labeled me with.

If someone's in this thread, they're here to participate in a conversation about music. You've had a few *really* good points concerning music; I can't even BEGIN to comprehend why you'd throw this away making a fool out of yourself just to live in the past concerning DBZ website stuff. If you'd actually participate in the conversation at hand rather than making it a point to "bash" myself and anyone who knows me, I think you'd find we agree on a lot more than you thought.

I'd *really* like to give you a chance. Like I said, you've brought up some really good stuff. I'm not sure what your personal beef is with me, and I'm doing my best to get around it to the actual subject matter of the thread, but you've gotta make it a little easier for us all :D

Agree with me or don't agree with me. *shrug* It's not an argument. Merely pointing out my opinions. If you're taking it as an argument, that's not my problem.
temjin wrote:I SAID FUCK ON A CD!! HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! WE MUST BE RENEGADES!
Yes, because singing "Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill the poor..." is MUCH more of a "renegade" action, right?

Of course, yes, I'm comparing Blink-182 and the Dead Kennedys, here.

The point I was trying to make (which I could have sworn I mentioned before), is that when they first came out, Blink-182 was considered part of the "punk" scene. Fine, no problem so far.

Years later, there are calls of "selling out" because of a change in the style of music. There clearly is *not*. If they were singing about poop seven years ago, and they still are now, I don't see much of a change. They've gotten older, and some songs have a much more serious message (the trademark serious songs of the last two albums, "Adam's Song" and "Stay Together for the Kids"), but the guys remain the same at heart.

I'd like to share some of my favorite quotes from a great band that I've been into for a few years:

"Now that band has made some money,
You're the one that bought the CD.
You told all your friends it was cool,
seems to me that you're the fool.
So before you open your mouth,
and you say a band has sold out,
do you know what they've been through,
know what they've gone through,
to play in front of you?

Please don't get me wrong,
I can't sum it up in one song.
Open your eyes before you open your mouth,
'cuz you might be the one that's selling out."

Heh. Finally got to (briefly) meet Chris at Otakon this weekend. About time. Didn't get to challenge him in DDR, though. I shall take thee down at some point in life! I do hereby declare!

See, this is the kind of thing I'm talking about. I first talked to Chris after I saw his Sailor Moon video. He was a really nice guy. Because of the video / song, I met someone. I got to meet him "in real life" at Otakon. I now have yet another person I can consider a personal friend of mine.

The POINT of this thread is "punk music." The conversations being brought up seem to (lately) revolve around the categorizing of the different sub-styles that are prevelent within this genre. It leads to arguments and ill-feelings (or so it would seem).

That's not what it's about. I find it horrifying that fans of this kind of music would splurge this kind of nonsense at each other. I'm doing MY best to keep my comments civil and open-minded; I may or may not succeed, but at least I've got this as a conscious thought.

Then again, as much as I find this horrifying, I remember that the instant these people are brought out from behind their computers, they tend to have nothing. The real fans you meet at shows tend to be the greatest people. Everyone looks out for each other in the pit, and if something wrong does go down, someone's right there to help out.

I remember when I went to see Bigwig a year or so ago, they were playing the "Cheers" theme, and right in the middle of the song, a fight broke out. The guys stopped playing immediately, and started talking to the two people having the argument. Everything was settled immediately, nothing bad ended up happening, and everyone was fine in the end. Everyone went on and enjoyed the music they came to hear.

That's what it's about. Categorizing, silly quabbles with other people... it's meaningless.

I try to keep reiterating that it's important to try and keep the thread on topic.. which is punk music. So long as we all agree that despite what one's feelings are, these days there is a wide variety of styles that can be considered in the "punk" genre, all is good.

S'all about the music, y0.
