Seeking help w/ gfx/webpage items related to an AMV ^_^

Post by StaticSanity » Sun Feb 23, 2003 11:02 pm

Hello everyone. I am currently working with a close friend of mine on an AMV. We have chosen a name for our production team, but as neither of us is very talented with graphics and such, we do not have a logo or a webpage design in the works. We are about 70% done with the project and plan to complete it within the following 4-8 weeks. I was wondering if anyone would be interested and kind enough to help us create a logo, some banners for the website, and/or maybe help us with creating/maintaining the AMV homepage. You would of course get all credit for whatever work you do wherever it is used, and links (and/or possibly hosting) to whatever you like. We have several ideas we have been throwing around. If you would like to help us out with any of these things and for further details, please contact me via your favourite instant messaging service or by e-mail.

I look forward to working with you and thanks for your time.

Regards,
Denis

I've been rather bored lately. I guess I could help out. I know there people better than me in graphics, and probably html as well.

If you can't even make decent 2D graphics, how good could the video possibly be?

But, seriously, you're better off designing your own graphics and your own website. Sure, they may suck at first, but doing it yourself is the only way to get any better at it.

Since you are such a newbie. Let me help ya out :) What? Me? Stoic, brillant web designer, make you graphics? Think not, I've done that in the past, it doesn't work out well. Everytime week or so I get an e-mail "Hey I want to change the banner to look like this, to look like that and to have that in it, thanks." No I'm not playing that game. So how well I help you? Simple, I will say two words that will help you and your friend, Online Tutorials.

Adobe Photo Shop Pro: Corel PhotoPaint and Draw: Jasc Paint Shop: I suggest you start out with Jasc Paint Shop Pro; it's a lot easier to use. People who start with Corel and Photo shop usually get lost in the scope of the program, and jump off a cliff, well maybe not that extreme, but they do give up on it.

Or for a free program that is in many ways as good as photoshop, use The GIMP:

hehe you guys have some good points, and let me say the following:

To everyone that responded, I consider myself to be a somewhat capable person, and I know how to use the various adobe suites. The reason I am seeking someone elses talents is because I want to focus on the creation of the video and do not want to take the time to go through countless tutorials learning various tricks at this time, and I know damn well that there's a slew of people out there that are way better than me at creating logos/banners/webpages. And as every other person out there, I want all things that represent me to the public to look good =P so I am trying to find someone who can do that to a much greater degree than I.

And specifically:

My_Nemesis - thanks, I'll try to get a hold of you as soon as I can

jbone - I am no good at making original graphics, I can however put together existing things quite nicely =P for AMV's and what not, I'll let you know when the video is out so you can judge for yourself (and maybe it will suck =( hehe).

Stoic - thanks for the links to the various programs, and I appreciate that you took the time to point me in the right direction. However, I have the latest photoshop and illustrator installed on my system, and I know a little bit about how to use both, but like I said earlier, I want to really focus on the AMV and not on learning the different environments. You might say it doesn't take that long, but I demand the highest quality from my work, and I think it would take a long time before I can come up with something I think is good. There are better people out there at it than me, that have that extra talent for these things that I can never pick up from any tutorial. As far as the negative experiences you've had working with others, I can't justify any of that; but, I can tell you that I've had 4 years of expreiences working with groups of anywhere between 5-10 people developing databases and accomodating for work flow so I know a little bit about how to treat other people and make the best use of their abilities, and I have a tendency to try to get things done right the first time. So in your example, I would have revised the original till it was perfectly suited to the application or it was dropped all together. I would never e-mail someone every week asking for a change... cause if that's the case, the original is not up to par.

AbsoulteDestiny - thanks for the tip, I'll check out that program so I can recommend it to others if it is good and they cannot get a copy of photoshop
