James Cameron directing Eva and Gargoyles on DVD. Info?
http://pub39.ezboard.com/flastboardonearthfrm2?page=12
While browsing, I found this page, on which are two interesting threads (probably old news to most). One is about James Cameron directing a live-action Evangelion movie, the other is about Gargoyles, one of my favorite series ever, finally being released to DVD by Disney. I'm looking up information myself, and I was wondering if anyone here had any info. Thanks.

I tried to scrounge up info on the GargoyleS DVD but have had little progress apart from claims that "it's coming". I can't find any blasted dates and we're already coming up to March 2003 soon. Come on, it's not like the eps haven't been made/dubbed/edited and all that already, they're sitting on them waiting to see if the market becomes a rabid horde.

*falls over dead complete with post-mortem twitches at the thought of James Cameron butchering Evangelion*

Myself, I think it would be interesting to see Jame's Cameron's version of Eva. The odds are fantastic that it will suck-ass, but I'd still be interested to see it. From the few articles I've read (feel free to dispute me if I am in error), James Cameron is an anime fan. If he is an Eva otaku, he may try to remain faithful to the original. Although I highly doubt anything can match the original anime version, I'd still go watch it.

They'll probably make it an action movie, and they will replace Asuka with a character that is only intended to piss off the viewer... they'll mess up the whole psychological thing ;_;
Not to mention the ending that will be totally butchered because "angels are good and they'd never want to end humanity! Oh no, it was all something made up by Seele to give God (< notice capitalisation) a bad name!".

I have a bad feeling about a US version of Eva. As cool as it would be to have one, just thinking about it brings back the live action Sailor Moon one of my friends got a hold of inside my head. How the hell could Rei be in a wheel chair, it dosen't make sense. I will add that after viewing the tape was attached to a skateboard, covered in home made napalm, then lit and left to roll down the hill and cause any property damage it wanted. I would rather my room burn to ashes than see that again.
im sorry, i retrect the last statment.

I have to agree with Chaos Angel... While the ending would be Americanized and TOTALLY butchered, it's always interesting to see something redone in a new style... anime->Live action... Live action->anime (please note the latter is not as painful as the former, i.e. Animatrix) But you have to admit... it doesn't matter how much of an Otaku you are, live action has different restrictions, physically, than anime. While CG has brought down many of these barriers there are a few that still exist. And besides that, the only way to release it even HALF way close to the original idea, there is no WAY that it could be released through conventional, 'popular methods'. It would have to go through channels similar to independant films, such as "Boondock Saints". Production company's would refuse to fund it, for fear of being persecuted by our lousy, conservative American critics. Any how... My few on that issue would take up way too much space for a single post, so back to the issue at hand...
Yeah I think it would be cool, but sucky.

James Cameron IS an anime fan. He was gushing like a fan boy about
Ghost In The Shell back in '96, and he pretty much called Blood the best
animated feature ever. But there's no fucking way that I'm letting a live
action NGE happen. I mean even if you ignore the budget and casting
issues think about the plot. NGE is one complete 13 hour story arc, you
can't just pull two hours out of it and turn it into a movie. And there's no
way in Hell that he could ever hope to make a live action EoE. I say it's
a pipe dream doomed to fail.
