Champagne Supernova (Shinya Ohira Anime mix)

before 2025 started I was planning to dedicate much of the year to editing with music from 1995. it was a great year for music, and a lot of my favorite songs/albums from my early teens came out that year, including my favorite album (refer to my last AMV). I didn't end up making as many edits from this year as I liked (three) but I made sure this song in particular would be a priority, and that I would finish it for my birthday.

I can't really point to exactly why I love this song so much. Lyrically, the song is very vague, but the words evoke a very timeless sentiment. Every time I hear it I get an intense mix of emotions that make me feel the love of the universe and that we're all connected. as well as the impermanence of life.

all year I kept this video idea in my head, trying to come up with a central theme for the sources I'd use. I considered a few ideas, but it wasn't until last November when I found my inspiration. I had just watched the newest season of Star Wars: Visions and was awestruck by the final episode, simply called BLACK. Its 14 minutes of some of the most insanely breathtaking animation, all created by one guy: Shinya Ohira. So I looked up some of his other work and realized it was giving me similar vibes I felt during the climactic parts of Champagne Supernova, and decided to base my end-of-year project on the productions he worked on (with the help of Sakugabooru)

I am very pleased with how the whole thing turned out, and relieved that I can finally get out this video idea thats been in my head for a couple decades. I've really been trying to get better at editing these past 7 years, and I don't think this would've turned out as good as it did had I attempted it earlier in my career.
