Hello,
A friend of mine wants to preserve their favorite AMVs but isn't sure how to do it. They could screen record the videos, but that might lower the resolution. What are some reliable YouTube downloaders that work well for this? Ideally, something safe that won't introduce viruses to their computer. I've heard about JDownloader—is that a good choice? If so, where's the best place to download it?

Re: Question on preserving content
I personally use RealDownloader. I paid the one-time fee of $25 to get some extra features, but the free version isn't bad https://www.real.com/

Re: Question on preserving content
It requires a bit of technical knowhow, such as how to setup and configure docker and containers, but I use YoutubeDL docker for the process. The specific one can be found with details on github. This version has a nicer graphical interface for the process.

Re: Question on preserving content
Last year I released a program called AMV Tracker. On top of being a tool to help you keep track of, rate, tag, and make notes about the AMVs you watch, it also provides functionality to download AMVs (or, really, any videos) from YouTube. Instructions on how to enable this functionality and use it can be found here.
