Forum rules
Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Need feedback on my band's new amv

Post by MechX » Sat Oct 03, 2020 11:36 pm

What's good guys? So I worked with my buddy to make this My hero academy amv. My band made the song, and he made the amv. Looking on some feedback and overall thoughts. Thanks!

Welcome to the Org! The rules of announcing videos in the "AMV Announcement forum" require you to catalog your video first. So please do that as soon as possible. If you don't know how, here is the FAQ post about it: How to Catalog & Upload Videos

Until then, I'm going to move your thread to the “Awaiting Catalog Entry” forum. And I can move it back once I see that you've done it.

Hi!

You didn't state but i guessed i give feedback on both the music and video:

I think you should work on some ideas for the text at the beginning, it really isn't up to your sound, so you might find a better font and solution for that. It's not that it's that bad, it's just very basic, looks a bit chunky and you deserve better. There are some irritating jumps in the brightness of the picture (for example 3:14 to 3:15, then back again from 3:16 to 3:17) which i either don't get or are not intended. I don't feel they look that good unless you maybe make some other changes to the picture.

The overlay at 0:26 is ok but not really that understandable picture-wise. As an pure effect it doesn't look that professional tho. I feel like you could have designed the video during the intro/first verse up to 0:49 even calmer, so the transition can kick in even more at that point. Also at the bridge(?) at 2:20 maybe take the pace out a bit more.

Cuts are very well done to the beat, i especially like the changes in the cuts from kick drum to snare. I think there is a LOT of stuff going on and sometimes it feels a little too much, the overall movement of the scenes, colors changing every second and stuff, loads of different characters, I know that's how AMVs are usually made, but it doesn't stay with the music all the time or to put it in other words, it's sometimes difficult to follow both.

The ending from 3:03 on is amazing. The scenes to the late resonance of the guitar too. Many of the transitions are also very well done, and the choice of anime seems about right.

You should put a DI-Box somewhere however because you got a mean ground noise on the recording audible at the last seconds, or cut and fade it out properly. The recording is nice, very good guitar sound, decent amount of compression, i feel like your drummer could need some heights, especially the snare (compared to the toms). OHs go crazy during refrain but thats loudness i guess. You should leave the sound of your singer exactly like this. I know i'm not your soundguy, just my humble opinion.

Really like the song together with the video, don't get me wrong.

Cheers, Karmelin
