My 1st AMV - Haikyuu!: Fledglings to Flock

Post by lamrith » Mon Nov 25, 2019 5:35 pm

My 1st AMV!! I originally finished this back on the Nov 20th. I watched a few times and was just not happy with it, so revamped a bunch and now have released it as of yesterday (Nov 24).

An ode to our favorite first years as they join the Karasuno Volleyball Club and start it on it's journey back to being a powerhouse team.

Interesting work. It kind of a felt like an 80s music video. With the song and scene selection. The scenes to me felt like they ran a bit long and I would have cut them shorter, but that's an artistic and subjective choice. Not bad for a first AMV.

Thanks.
Yeah I am a bit of a 80's kid, and that song and anime were meant to go together (imho). The segments were a bit long, and is something I need to work on for future AMV's, I just struggled to get the message across with shorter clips. I was trying to portray Hinata and Tobio's journey from rivals to teammates only using the first 10 episodes of the series which was too limiting, I should have saved that song for an AMV about the entire series.

Maybe I will make a second AMV at a later time using the entire series to do the song proper justice.

I like the concept. The pacing feels a little too slow at times. And yet, that kind of gives this AMV its own feeling, one I haven't seen before in any of the other videos I've seen edited to this series. It also gave me a better sense of the characters, a better sense of what watching this show might actually be like, than any of the slicker videos I've seen made to this that strictly utilize only the most action-packed shots and nothing else. The action shots here did work really well. Despite the sense that this was showing a relatively small set of scenes, I still enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm going to disagree with vkamv, I don't think the song needs to be cut, it's longer than the average AMV but it's still under 4 minutes and those went by pretty quickly for me.

Lip flap at 1:48 was the only part I would have suggested taking out or addressing in some other creative way.

Yeah, I'll subscribe to your channel. This was a really good first edit and I really hope it's not your last.

Thank you, I am glad that you liked it and appreciate that you took the time to do a detailed review. It honestly gives me new energy to continue.

I most certainly do have more in the pipeline, too many actually. I had a sequel to this video going and 3/4 done following the team thru season 1, but got to a point it was not flowing, then another song popped up that gave me a plot I had to run with, so I shelved the sequel for the time being. I have a problem in that I hear songs/lyrics and get image flashes of something from one of the anime's that fits the song. I lean more toward Rock/Hard rock music, I am hoping it might end up letting me put some new spin on some of the Anime that people have already done AMV's for.
