Prodigal Friend - Puella Magi Madoka Magica - Angel by Sarah McLachlan

Post by deejaythink » Wed Jul 03, 2019 12:31 pm

My friend James Farlow and I worked on this together. So I had this idea a few years ago to match this song with a concept involving Homura trying to keep Madoka away. The song used was written by Sarah McLachlan about the band member from Smashing Pumpkins who had overdosed. The song highlights the darker side of the celebrity life which is often believed to be glamorous. I thought the connection with Homura keeping Madoka away from the dark side of the life of a magical girl was a great match.

Please let us know what you think!

The action struck me as a little too intense for such a slow and sullen song. At least initially, perhaps not the first impression that ought to define the video. But it's integral to the story you're telling, so I'm not necessarily saying to cut it. The violence of the second half of the video feels more poignant and "earned" as the video feels more like it's building towards it.

I definitely get the concept that you're going for and it definitely makes sense. The timing of cuts was pretty solid, and overall this was a satisfyingly clean and well-produced AMV. Definitely a break from what I'm used to watching, that's for sure.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah that opening scene we put in because we showed a few friends who had never seen the show. They had no idea Homura was a magical girl and were a little confused till later in the video. So we tried to put something in at the beginning to pass that information on quickly, but yeah I definitely can see how it clashes with the tone of the video.

Thank you taking the time to respond to us! Much appreciated =)

Feels fitting enought lyric wise i guess. i think pacing feels a bit off, but maybe it's just me, anyway not bad.
Still better than that MMO.
