Anime Ode to Joy

Post by animefan1 » Thu May 11, 2017 8:58 pm

Well, I don't know WHEN, i'll be able to upload this video onto THIS server (despite multiple failed attempts! lol) but you can go to dropbox to get it in the meantime!

And i'm VERY proud of this AMV, I mean when WAS the last time you heard an AMV done to classical music, let alone to Beethoven's "Ode to Joy"? But yeah, and everything I say in the slides before & after the AMV is absolutely true so, let me just show you guys the link: https://www.animemusicvideos.org/member ... p?v=202493

Ok, I'm sure you guys will like it, so enjoy! :D

"La Cane de Feu" (2009) and "Stupid Couple" (2010) come to mind. And as far as the Ode to Joy, there's always the old classic "KDMD" (1999).

I didn't realize this until I rewatched it, but it seems like the whole Shimoneta section of this video is just the same scenes you used in "Tanukichi Takes the Red Pill".

Yeah, well first of all, arigato gozaimasu for watching both of my AMV's. I really do appreciate it. Two, I didn't know that about the other AMV's in question, though it HAS been a while until a few months ago, that i've seen more than a few new AMV's. But i'll definitely check them out in the next days or so. And three, yes, I DID reuse footage from the "Tanukichi takes the Red Pill" AMV, but that was b/c I show THAT AMV later in the panel in question so, it' was like a preview for the rest of the panel or something. I mean, that's not a problem, isn't it? I don't think that it is but I just wanted to make sure.

Well, I'd be a pretty negligent contest coordinator if I didn't watch every video we received.

If people are going to be watching this AMV outside the context of a panel, then the footage needs to make sense with the music on its own. I didn't realize when I saw this video that it was originally for a panel, and without that context I was rather confused at the scene choices for a lot of it.

For example, you start off with arguably the loudest, most joyful part of the whole 9th Symphony 4th Movement, but the animé clips in that part don't come close to matching that energy -- they're some of the most mundane clips ever from Haruhi, RoD, Madoka, and Fruits Basket, with nothing grand happening on the screen, and there's no clear common thread among those sources either.

First of all, I didn't know that was you Peter at first. Since this is a different thread, and a different section of the forum, I wasn't keeping track.

Yeah, I had a feeling that some people wouldn't understand why I chose that scene from Haruhi to open up the Ode to Joy AMV. And I do agree that it's mundane, but like I said, it's for a panel that I do regarding Inspirational/Uplifting Themes in Anime, many of which do not have the kind of high-energy that I think you would be asking me to do for this type of AMV. Also, the scenes from Read or Die, with Yomiko Readman, especially when she first popped her head out of the papers, LOL, also fits with the concept that this is an "Ode to Joy" moment. Also, I know that you didn't say anything about any of the Inuyasha scenes, so I take it that those were fitting for the song?

I didn't even know how this was going to come out when I first started making this, it was just a little something that made for fun, like what a lot of AMV makers do, but when I saw the results, especially the third and final part, I was really blown away, and felt that many people attending these AMV contest would be as well. And you guys at AnimeNEXT did say that you wanted everyone who wanted to, to submit their entries, am I right? And hey, not every great idea starts out as a "grand slam home run" ne?

Sorry if I'm going on too long with these things, it's just that I faced a lot of crap in the past 3 weeks, that I won't get into here or now, and a lot of of it did involve the convention and geek communities as well. But thank you for considering my videos, thank you for the fact that you guys will be screening them in the Overflow blocks, and I guess I'll see you at AnimeNEXT next month. Ok, jaa, mata!
