The best or most influential "classic" AMVs

...I knew EK from UT (our university) as well as AMVs, she worked in the same office as my best friend, Clint. Carlos (Machine) was also there at the time, he and I even worked in the same building. I'm going to bet Tigrin knows her from her comics.

What!! That's so cool, I'm geeking out. Yeah I know of her from when I started reading her comic TJ and Amal a few years ago, and I follow her on Tumblr. Recently she's been really into Yuri on Ice and drawing comics and doujinshi for it. Now that I know she also made AMVs I think she is even more awesome. I've been meaning to pick up her doujinshi and her PDF of "Whisper Grass".

Back on topic, some thoughts from some of the videos Erik posted that I watched earlier:
- Euphoria - I... I'm sorry, I couldn't finish it. I think after watching some of these old AMVs I've confirmed that I just don't care for motion graphics. I'm not sure why this is rated so highly? A legacy thing maybe.
- CHIHUAHUA! - was this seriously their first AMV? that lip sync is on point o_o so fun to watch
- I Wish I Was a Lesbian - so do I
- AMV Hell - some of the later ones were definitely better and funnier, this occasionally made me feel uncomfortable? (the spanking bit)
- Hold me now - how do so many Princess Tutu videos make this anime look fricking awesome, it's not awesome, I want the time back I spent watching it

I like Damaged Rei Mix by Kewp more than I liked Euphoria.

As for Hold Me now, I'm a pretty big fan of Tutu, and I met the creator (she did a small sketch of Rue for me), and it was pretty cool. We probably just have very different ideas of what constitutes a good show, but that's not so surprising. My favorite works are not very popular.

That's cool. I like a lot of things that are not very popular either. My issue with Princess Tutu was more that the pacing of the show was glacier slow. I think the reason I love Princess Tutu AMVs, but don't care much for the show itself, is that AMVs can kind of condense things down to the best parts of the show and create a more concise story. There was a lot of cool things about Princess Tutu and it was a bit lost in a muddled story, confused character motivations, and slow pacing. It's been years since I saw it, though, and I'm just not much of a shoujo person.

I have to add stuff for HMTV (Harsh Mistress Television), because only one is even cataloged via Proxy. The last internet record seems to be from one of the studio members, DJ CatSkratch who said:

I used to make AMVs many many years ago. I was a part of HMTV (Harsh Mistress Televistion) We made 20 videos, but only 3 of them really gained any attention. Our "I Must Increase My Bust" video was VERY well known (and there's no surprise why) and we made an EVA video to Pink Floyd's "Mother" which also was very popular (And I won a couple awards for it too, heh) but yeah, those were good times. I have so many ideas for new videos, its just a matter of time to make them these days. If anyone has seen them, by all means lemme know what you think! Thanks!

"The Pain of Friendship" - this made me a little emotional, good choice of song
"Battle Chess" - where is it I want to see it ;_;
"Evangelion Opus" - I feel like if this were to be remastered and entered in contests it would still win Best in Show today. came across as unintentionally funny though, particularly some of the lyric sync
"Larger Than Life" - yes please more very serious anime to boy bands
"Memories Dance" - great concept and yay Loreena McKennitt

If you watch my 2001 videos, you'll get a good feel for what we were working with at the time, and I was not really a good editor. But it set the stage for developing a style that I still maintain today.

Hahaha, wow. Talk about timing. I was just searching for 'Itinerant Press' in google looking for something completely unrelated, and it brought me here.

I can't believe I'm remembered at _all_ much less being categorized as malingering amongst the 'influential,' much less within light years of anyone called 'best.'

Especially not for a video that I made fifteen years ago, and I don't think has had a copy online since the original Waldo's FTP server went down, almost as long ago - (that's history for you, folks! - using a video editor that only let me change clip length and employ simple transitions, using 4th generation fansubs. Since you were kind enough to mention it, I figured the least I could do was upload the file so people could actually see it.

I'd always planned to go back and redo it once the entire Utena TV series was available on DVD, and I acquired and learned the ins and outs of Premiere... well, we've seen how that worked out! If you're interested enough to check out the Rose And Release videos, it's an interesting examination in how much difference a more capable editing suite can make. Like being able to see the audio wave forms to sync up action and audio instead of winging it by ear.

It's certainly been a trip down memory lane, and I'm both flattered and immensely _humbled_ to even be mentioned in the same thread, much less post as luminaries like Caldwell, Kusoyaro, VicBond007, Quu... it makes me want to say, 'oh, you're thinking of that OTHER Itinerant Press... y'know, the GOOD one.'

I strenuously object. Anyone who was around in 2003 knows that Daniel Chang's "Evolution" (using the song of the same name by Ayumi Hamasaki) was infamous for popularizing the "piano keys" effect.
