Numbers 1,2,3 are added to indicate the train of ta-ta-ta triplets from 00:40 to 00:52.
In this particular recording, Volodos played a shortened version that omits "Variation No.2" (the one characterized by dotted rhythm) and "Variation No.3" (the expressive, slow section). A recording of the full version played by Horowitz himself is available on Youtube
