  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

I thought it was very well-edited, the (very) different sources were brought together well, which isn't easy to do.

The jokes didn't really land with me, which sucks because I wanted them to, as you're working squarely within the AMV Hell template but really trying to use material that's outside of the normal, guaranteed, easy-laugh joke that most editors go for with this. Like, I loved that there were no super-popular songs (relatively speaking), memes, Family Guy clips or Weird Al songs (and I love Weird Al but can we try something else?), but again, the punchlines didn't really get through to me.

I guess the real test would be a midnight con screening, which I hope it gets somewhere, someday.

Thanks for the comments! Original comedy AMVs, in which none of the source materials are intentionally funny, are extremely hard. This is partly because referential comedy depends on the audience knowing and recalling all the references, and partly because humour is so subjective. I know that a lot of the things I find funny in real life, other people don't.

I'd be interested to know which clips fell into the category of
a) Funny
b) Didn't get the joke
c) I think I got the joke, but didn't find it funny

Without getting into exactly why I reacted this way to each segment (because that would be a very long post, could get very complicated and contradictory and would just say more about me than the actual video itself):
Spoiler :
Monster Musume - (c)
Prison School/Deftones - (c)
Raiders of the Lost Ark - (a)
Yurikuma Arashi/The Simpsons - (a)
Love Live!/Perfect Blue/Ladytron - (c)
Revolutionary Girl Utena/Jermaine Stewart - (c)
91 Days/Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - (c)
Archer/cosMo-The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku - (c)
Monster Musume/Radiohead - (c)
Azumanga Daioh/Kendrick Lamar - (c)
ReLife/Carrie - (b, or after reading the end credits, c)
2 things I want to say that don't really have anything to do with this video. Or maybe have a lot to do with it, I don't know.

I've watched AMV Hell videos by myself at home and found certain parts to be just not that funny at all. And then later, I'd watch the same thing at a convention where literally everyone else in the room was laughing at those same parts. (This usually gets me caught up in their reaction and makes me realize that those jokes that I didn't think were very funny, actually were, and my sense of humor just sucks).

Also, based on audience reaction that I've witnessed in person, I'm pretty sure I'm made the single least-funny clip out of the entire AMV Hell series. That's seven releases, made up of hundreds of clips, which would take over seven hours to watch, and the single lowest point in terms of audience reaction is the 30 seconds that I've contributed to it. So I think I have a useful perspective on this topic! But I'm also the safety net that will keep anyone else from hitting that bottom, so don't hold back!
