It Sucks Less to Be-Bop (Otakon 2014 Comedy 2nd Place)

Post by milesprower05 » Mon Aug 11, 2014 3:51 pm

Basically the idea here was that I've never heard of a single song match the character profile of so many characters in a single show before. Not to mention it was funny...and I love Comedy. I made this with my wife and my good buddy alexmichur00.

We've waited to release this for a while and we are proud that it made it to the finals at Otakon. We somehow took second place in what I feel was one of if not the strongest Comedy categories I've seen.

Hopefully you all enjoy!

Forget the Hell style jokes, Lonely Island songs, excessive internet memes...I enjoy comedy vids like this. Yes, Avenue Q has been used many times in the past, but this fits so well that I don't care. This video is such a fun fit for the characters of Cowboy Bebop and that's all due to the effort and care you guys put into the scene selection. It's not a 6 minute laugh fest, but I can tell you I was smiling the whole time. Kudos on this one!

BTW...dog lip sync FTW!

Thanks a lot, we definitely put a lot of effort into the scene selection. And yes, the dog does seem to steal the show. It was one of my favorite parts to work on.

That was so sad, but so funny

Nice lipsync, and great job!

Congratulations on placing at Otakon! But I've been wondering ever since I saw that they were two different videos in the database: what are the differences between this video and your 2008 version?

Thanks! There are a few but without going into too much detail the main differences are a lot of scene changes (each part had differences but a large portion of the ending was changed), way better sync, and way better video quality. We improved wherever we could, of course some of the original scene selection just fit so well we decided to fix and re-use them instead of replace them.

Come on, you know the real difference miles.

Windows Movie Maker vs Sony Vegas.

It makes a big difference. Also the 6 extra years of editing experience, but that's probably not that big of a deal. :-p. If you watch the original video, all the mistakes happen at the beginning because its impossible to fix mistakes "earlier" in a video in Windows Movie Maker.

Okay, well, yeah. There was that but I wasn't planning to bring that up. Vegas has definitely made life better.

At first I was like... gosh the comedy cat musta been pretty lame this year. BUT this video takes a bit to get going by the end I was having LOTS of fun! Right about the Fei part and it kept getting better. ANYWAY I think this video woulda' been better as a drama, it just wasn't too funny. It was fun though and very well designed... and since drama is always so full maybe it is better that it's here, but IMO it fits better in drama (it's hard to get over a well designed video your proud of it just makes you so happy that you think it's funny!) Don't sweat getting second I think your video rocks!

It definitely gets better as it goes, that is for sure. I'm glad it won you over by the end. And yes, I'm sure we think a lot of the more minor jokes are funnier than most first time viewers would think they are. A lot of the humor is subtle and ironic so its hard to get people laughing out right, especially during a first view. But the second half definitely has some funny moments and it was great experiencing the audience reaction to some of those.

I definitely am not sweating the second place finish. While we of course would love a win, you should be sure to look up the other Otakon Comedy finalists. The category was awesome this year.
