Suffice it to say, I am a bit hesitant to include text in my videos. It stems from a previous experience that was... less than exemplary. I also don't think that text would have improved the video that much. Though perhaps it would have made it easier to digest for a crowd... The sparse source material made making this video extremely difficult, and in the end this is only a shallow representation of what I'd have liked to do... that is, a full exploration of Diarmuid and Grianne's story. Unfortunately Ufotable only saw fit to grant us about 90 seconds worth of this excellent myth. I could have done better in my implementation of the theme and melding it with the present reality of the show, though.Warlike Swans wrote:This isn't my favorite of yours. I like the thought that went into the narrative framing, but the narrative itself is not very clear. Reading the summary I understand just how much of it I miss from the video itself. (Basically all I got was: guy is dying and has a flashback, had a lover back in the middle ages, flash forward [within the flashback] and he's fighting hundreds of years later, return to present.) For a video that's going out to cons, it would be better to have a narrative that is supported by text than a narrative that relies on the audience already knowing the story.
There's a lot of beautiful camera and transition work, but some of it is just filler. (There's a few sweeping background pans that detract from the action and the characters.) The use of Saber is an issue too, she has way too much screen time for a character that has no noticeable connection to the narrative/theme. That said, the pairing is very powerful and the mood is strong despite the occluded narrative. So yeah, it's still an enjoyable watch. Congratulations on your wins.

Thanks for the comments.Shui wrote:I love Eluveitie. Unfortunately I don't think this song works for this AMV. It does not have the correct pace to fit such action scenes & the blur+pan transitions felt off.
Good work, but it doesn't work for me.
