Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
- Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
- Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
- When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
- Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Okay, this is officially the first time that I've seen someone complain about a viewer actually taking the time to think and write about a video. Congratulations sir, you get an imaginary medal for this bizarre achievement :O
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Celly,
I didn't like or dislike the video. There isn't enough of it to draw much of a conclusion about how I should feel. Nivekov123 hit it in one, this site was established first to collect all anime music videos in one place, but it became much, much more very quickly. These forums primarily exist in order to help make editors better. Some of us even have professional experience or wish to go on to editing in a professional setting. This sets our community apart from YouTube or perhaps other remix culture areas.
I was simply interested in listening to your vision and, perhaps, helping you to better communicate it to others. If this is something you're interested in, you will find this community to be a fountain of knowledge about technique and theory. If it's not, you may be surprised or even bothered by the level of attention to detail you may get by announcing your videos in this forum. Trust me, everyone in this thread can attest to times I've written entire essays going scene by scene. I couldn't do that with your video; there wasn't enough of it.
A note to the others in the thread: Celly has only been editing since June, I think, and on YouTube. The ways of the Org are probably surprising and foreign to him. Hopefully, he'll come around.

What's "wrong" with the video depends very much on what you were going for, but that's not entirely clear to me. If you choose to use effects that are very heavy, such as pixelation or blurring, etc, they should walk a fine line between being coherent with the whole and being obviously a chosen effect. The issue with your effects choices, as far as I could tell from the short size of the video, was that I had a hard time following whether or not they were intentionally placed or simply the result of improper footage preparation or exportation/encode.
Yes, everyone does have their own style. Look at me, "kiovid" is practically a recognised style in and of itself! However, there is a difference between having a legitimately different "style" and just not getting the most out of your effort, your planning, and your tools. There are plenty of videos I don't "get," but I recognise that the video in question has a style which doesn't appeal to me.
Who am I to judge? Well, art is always subjective, but there are a number of well established technical standards which are clearly explained on this site... including in guides written by me among many other talented individuals. I was once where you were, about 12 years ago. In that time I've watched many thousands of videos, made dozens of my own either individually or in collaboration, helped hundreds of people, and written several FAQs and guides (primarily for Mac), but ultimately, I can judge because I am a viewer and this is the AMV Announcements forum where people usually come to ask others for their feedback.
My assumption that you wanted feedback, while clearly faulty, was based on long experience with the AMV Announcement format. I was trying to help, and I am trying to help, and if you want to hop into #amv-review on irc.synirc.net on any given day, I (and likely others) will be happy to go step by step with you on how to improve your videos.
The reason why this looked like a beta or proof of concept was that it was 43 seconds, didn't have a very clear starting point or stopping point, and seemed very experimental. Usually (again assumption) these are signs of a video which is unfinished. Usually shopped around among friends or fellow editors for feedback and ideas. If you say this video is completed, I absolutely believe you, but that brings us back to your vision and its lack of clarity.
You've been doing this for maybe three months, and we understand that. No one here is mocking you for inexperience. You're not going to get better over night, and issues of planning are some of the toughest for editors. Many editors have a natural skill to just edit on the fly. This is what we do when we Iron Chef. For the most part, I do not have this talent. I enjoy editing on the fly, but I find most of my videos require significant storyboarding and long range planning. Perhaps you are like me.
If you want help, we're here. Just say the word.

I think it's because for the human brain to absorb and enjoy something to it's full extent it must be a minimum of around 1min and 30 seconds to 3 minutes maximum (for a music video) to retain the viewer. Think about it, when you watch a music video on lets say Youtube, or just a video in general, you'll probably get off of the page if it's too long, and if it's too short, well it's just simply too short. And as for the pixelated gunshots, that is a matter of opinion yes, but he is simply stating what he find's aesthetically pleasing (looks good). I mean we're not trying to say you suck or anything, everyone starts somewhere, and we all have a life to learn. I hope this helps.Celly wrote:sooooooo wut exactly is wrong with the video besides it being to short? every1 has there own style maybe i like pixelated gunshots who r u to judge? what am i not understanding yes the forum is for constructive critisism i get that now but damn, i thought i did good then for some1 to ask me if it was finished and it looked like a beta set me off
