I think most fans are still pretty cool. As always, it's a vocal minority of overly-shrill people who take their shit too seriously that ruin it for the rest of us.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Response from Hasbro
"The 'My Little Pony Friendship is Magic' series has always been about acceptance and inclusion, and the series strives to convey that through the playful antics of a diverse cast of characters. Some viewers felt that aspects of the episode 'The Last Roundup' did not stay true to the core message of friendship which is the heart and soul of the series. Hasbro Studios decided to make slight audio alterations to this single episode."

You can read more about it here

.......

Yea so.... It's sucks it was changed but 'it is what it is' and I really doubt it gonna change back.

I guess I was misinformed by someone else, I was told it was a permanent on-going change. Didn't really look into it much, saw some of the stuff, and just thought I'd share since I know there's alot of MLP fans on here.
I don't really prefer to stop liking something because of how some of the others fans are though. There are plenty of occasions where I will see comments by fans of various things I enjoy that make me squirm inside, but I'm not going to let them ruin something I like.

There's a lot of misinformation going around, however this article was useful for me. Also there's been an official statement from Hasbro it seems. I still wonder about the future of the character, but they aren't pulling her completely out of previous episodes, also they didn't change her name, they just modified the episode on iTunes (and I assume on the television reruns) As I said if you get the DVD titled "The Friendship Express" it's uncensored. I know because I have it.

Didn't they change Derpy because it was offensive to those with mental retardation?

I mean, I don't mean to go all conservative on you guys, but you have to remember that this show is still directed at little girls. Hasbro appreciates how much the older (and mostly male) fandom has increased its popularity, but they aren't going to change the core values of the show just because people think it should be marketed at them instead. MLP is (and always has been, since older generations) a show for kids, and they aren't going to be making fun of people with mental handicaps any time soon.

It was a vocal minority who were offended by the scene, which led to this whole dramafest behind Derpy. I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding your post Kiki, but the scene in question wasn't intentionally making fun of the mentally handicapped. Derpy was given a significant scene as a nod to the older fans of the show, and she was depicted as a chipper, yet obliviously accident-prone mare (as was her fan-given personality). There was a miscommunication with Tabitha St. Germain who voiced Derpy in the scene, and she wasn't aware that she was voicing a female character. Her voicing Derpy was inspired by a neighbor's son who she described as "clutzy, and he spoke at the speed of a tree." The combination of Derpy's antics, her fan-given name, and St. Germain's voicing choice were all small factors that led to such a misinterpretation.

When I first saw the episode I was thrown off at first viewing of the scene, but I never felt they were making fun of mentally disabled people with it. I saw it as a shout-out to the fans that made the show a success. However I did anticipate the shitstorm that was to come, and when the episode was taken down from iTunes I had expected the scene to be altered.

I am sorry it had to come to it, but I understand and agree with their decision to a point. The redubbing of Derpy and the removal of her name was expected (Amy Keating Rogers who wrote the episode said it best when she said that if Derpy's name "...truly can be defined as “retarded,” then I am personally glad that name is gone."). I feel the same way seeing how any kid who watches the episode may repeat the word and unknowingly upset someone in the process without meaning to.

However, I think they went too far in 'damage control' by changing Derpy's signature wall-eyed expression and redubbing Rainbow Dash's lines completely instead of simply editing out Derpy's name. That I am disappointed in, but it's Hasbro's and Studio B's show, not mine or any other fan for that matter. They're free to do whatever they want with it.

What I'm most disappointed with are the fans' reactions to the whole ordeal. My serious disliking for bronies has been gradually building since last fall, and this whole shitstorm over Derpy was the last straw for me. I have come to a point where I simply cannot enjoy this show anymore unless I watch it by myself and avoid talking to other fans about it completely.
Spoiler :
tl;dr
They weren't intentionally making fun of the mentally handicapped.
I never saw it that way.
I'm sad it came to it, but I agree with their decision to change the scene to a point.
I fucking hate bronies. A LOT.

special ed kids don't exist, it's offensive that they would include one!

spongebob should take a note out of these people's book, DOWN WITH THE LESS INTELLIGENT! that country pony is pretty offensive too, stereotypical texan cowgirl.

correct me if i'm wrong but the word derp didn't even come from actual mentally challenged people, just being clumsy, in a way it's more offensive for them to link it back to mentally challenged kids than keeping it in and maybe make challenged kids feel more...accepted?

i hate the whole show and its fandom so whatever
