Here's my entry for Akross con 2011. Let me know what you guys think. =]
Short point form summary of the story:
Spoiler :
- Starts off with the flashback of the village being attacked, while kenshin observes.
- The leader of the samurai approaches him, and kills his mother before him, leaving him behind to suffer.
- The story shifts to present, where kenshin is shown marking his face with a cut to remind him of his revenge.
- He starts tracking down, and slaying those who were responsible for the attack on his village.
(There's a clip when he's shown in blood, and he looks at his hand) This is when he starts to notice how much he has changed, and is being consumed by hatred.
- He falls in love, but continues slaying those responsible for the attack.
- His girlfriend tries to stop him, but kenshin's love for her gets overwhelmed by his hate, and he breaks free.
- Finally, narrowing down to the leader kenshin finds the man he has searched for years.
- After Slaying the man responsible, the slash wound on kenshin's face opens up and bleeds, as he slays him. (This was to show that his revenge has been taken for which the mark was initially made for as a symbol of his revenge.)
But in doing so, kenshin losses him self, and turns into a demon him self.

the song choice seemed really unfitting, and there wasn't much done editing-wise to relieve that so it came out feeling like an IC for the most part (long and well edited for an IC though i'll give it that). The editing matched the song and everything, like you faded on parts that sounded like fades and cut according to beats and had internal sync and all that but there's so much going on in the song musically so many small pieces that went unaccounted for because the source was really simple looking as opposed to a kind of techno-y anime that would be someone's first instinct with this song. It just kind of bored me. Had good scene selection and progression, and you highlighted the inner conflict of the main character (killing and stuff against the girl's wishes) that was done well, but it had a weird ending for that kinda concept as you don't know how the conflict is resolved.

Overall, i thought you could have edited it to suit the song better, or chosen a different source, but it wasn't horrible for what you chose. 5/10

I enjoyed it in the sense that it did a fairly good job at conveying its dark/bloody theme, but I tend to agree with gote that it needed more cuts/editing to really bring out the true beauty behind it (especially in the beginning, and the very middle). I also agree that the ending was kind of a cliff-hanger with no real closure.

But I will give you nice props on the dark effective overlay. I did like that.

Yea, I've heard that a lot from others, and your right, I should have added some effects or something to sync a little better. But, I was going for a different style of editing, and I just didn't want the clips to change all that fast, so I mostly synced to movement. And another thing that kept me from it was the story, and just creating that mood, I just thought I should keep things slow, and not go too far on changing the clips rapidly for the sake of sync.

And I honestly knew when I started this, that a lot of ppl will not like the mix of this song, and the anime, but I just really wanted to work with it, so it just had to be done.

Thanks, CodeZTM, but it's like I said, I was going for a different style of editing, and didn't want to sync to every sound. But, yea maybe some effects or something would have been better.

I liked this Ali,

Kenshin is one of my favourite animes to watch, and I really enjoy watching AMVs where the focus a lot more on Kenshin as per say all them other fighters (that I don't remember the names of...).

Overall, I think you did a really good job with this. The beginning was really nice, especially with the atmosphere. I don't feel you over did the dubstep or even didn't do the dubstep justice. Think the syncing with some of the scenes from movement, to "emotions" was really great. Some viewers probably missed that. I am surprised it didn't get into finals D''=

Thanks, Ashley. :awesome:
Yea, I don't agree with the judges, but I'm not really that sad about not getting into finals, as much as seeing some work out there that did, and looks...lets just say really interesting. I would have liked a better response, than "Unfortunately it didn't make it through", since it leaves me thinking why. lol. I'd love to know how judging is done there. I'm assuming it's just done by the favorites of the majority of the judges.
