[Visual Effects]

1. Effects which serve no purpose other than to make up for boring footage/editing.

2. Grunge/old-film look which serves no purpose other than to make up for low-quality footage/editing.

3. Bad font choices.

4. Camera shake that makes me want to scream "For the love of all that is good, HOLD STILL!"

5. Masking for no purpose other than to point out that there is masking. Usually this also is executed poorly, which only increases the level of offense.

[Style / Genre]

1. Action videos which are all sync and no substance.

2. Drama videos which use a bunch of a series' high-impact scenes...but don't bother to educate the uninformed viewer about what makes those scenes high-impact in the first place.

3. Dance videos which hover so close to the "action" video line that the only difference is really how bright the color palette is.

4. Single/dual-editor AMV Hell-type videos which go on waaaayyy too long.

5. Comedy videos which utterly fail to be amusing because they rely on funny audio as their sole source of comedic relief (a.k.a many Weird Al AMVs) and totally drop the ball in all other respects.

[Anime / Visual Source]

1. Bad AR, particularly and most egregiously in AMVs being shown in competition.

2. Subtitles. No, just...put down that fansub and back away slowly!

3. Over-filtering of footage such that it no longer resembles the original footage, most often seen with color/saturation/brightness adjustments.

4. Using multiple sources with different visual quality in one video.

5. Unfortunate evidence of footage being slowed down or sped up. This includes 60 FPS videos which would have probably been just fine at 24 FPS or something.

[Additional Grievances]

1. Over-reliance on the popular song-of-the-day/week/month.

2. Karaoke.

3. AMVs set to foreign-language songs which the editor a) clearly doesn't know the meaning of and/or b) can't communicate the meaning of.

4. Lots of visual activity during pauses or dramatic silences in a song.

5. Fan-videos. The type which are titled Inuyasha_X_Kagome and exist for no other reason than to literally show someone's favorite scenes of specific characters doing random stuff.

I have to say, reading everyone's lists, I am getting quite an education about particular likes/dislikes I never really thought about before (or, if I did, didn't realize some folks might feel so strongly).

[Visual Effects]

1. AfterEffects wanking. Just because you CAN do an effect, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

2. Camera shake just for the sake of trying to be "edgy." It usually fails.

3. Badly done particle effects. This ESPECIALLY includes particle effects that are rendered at, say, 30fps on top of a 24fps source. It looks HORRIBLY out of place.

4. Crappy lipsync

5. Piano keys

[Style / Genre]

1. Hipstertrash/faux-artistic (yes, I realize Tinnitus could be included, but that was done as a joke)

2. Generic Action Video #4752. Fast music doesn't mean you have to make it a "ZOMG EPIKU BATTARU!" video

3. "Everyone Else Has Done This, So I Should Too" videos. Just because a theme is popular doesn't mean take on it won't suck.

4. Sappy romantic videos for others that mention said person in some way. We get it. You're "soooo in loooove" that you made a video JUST for your sweetie/cuddlebug/froofroo/snufflekins/etc. But it's nauseating to the rest of us who are old enough to actually have a HS diploma.

5. Comedy videos that aren't funny.

[Anime / Visual Source]

1. DBZ

2. Naruto

3. Improperly cleaned source material from the 80's

4. Source material from Youtube

5. Source material from horribly encoded fansubs (ties into #1 below)

[Additional Grievances]

1. SUBTITLES. I want them in my anime. However, they have NO BUSINESS in your video unless they are translations of the MUSIC, and I can also turn them off!

2. Crappy audio. No, I don't mean crappy music. I hate it when people think that everything must go to 11, and the audio is so damned loud it's constantly clipping. Or the reverse, when it's so quiet I can't hear it even with the volume all the way up.

3. Rainbowing (see #3 in Anime/Source grievances)

4. No obvious effort, but expecting everyone to think it's the greatest thing ever.

5. Inability to take constructive criticism (i.e. going all "OMGWTF why u no liek mai vid" / "y u haet meeeee?" when someone points out a legitimate concern).

Tinnitus

<Stirspeare> Fire_Starter: Electoral college etc.

"Then you weeaboo faggots need to stop thinking that Japan is ZOMG awsmsauce where all ur waifu dreams come true."

[Visual Effects]

1. Anything that stands out too much. Anything. If you can point at anything and say: "This doesn't look right", then it's bad.

2. Logo (of the creator). Goddammit, you think THEY (whoever they are) can't crop it away? What's next, watermark over the whole video?

3. Abuse of white/black flashes.

4. Lipflap and/or bad lipsync.

5. Bad usage of typography.

[Style / Genre]

1. Anything that I fail to understand. This doesn't mean that I have to know the anime at all - there are ways. But if to me the video seems like random scenes laid together to random music, I probably won't even finish the video.

2. Generic action/shounen video. Usually to some angsty or sad music. Take your pick.

3. Generic drama video. Gosh, people, there are TONS of ways to make a video dramatic without love tragedy or death.

4. Boring or highly specific (so highly that I don't get them) comedy videos.

5. Shiny ZOMGSOFAST stuff except very few things (Skittles, AotO and others fall under here), because most people can't finetune it enough.

[Anime / Visual Source]

1. 3D sources (FFVII:AC, KH and the like). No.

2. Subtitles.

3. Completely wrong AR and/or letterboxing.

4. Interlacing.

5. Bad quality in general.

[Additional Grievances]

1. Lack of understanding of constructive criticism.

2. Throwing out tons of mediocre AMVs without ever looking back and finding out how to improve.

3. Making fan stuff because you like the serie/film/whatevs. Hey, even I don't make 5cm stuff because it's 5cm - but because I have IDEAS which 5cm fits to.

4. Completely off-beat.

5. No progress, new ideas, motives and similar things over the creator's production span. You can be Nostromo, but seeing the same stuff again and again is just boring - no matter how well it's created.

/* Effects should enhance the video, not just be tacked on. If the effect doesn't improve the mood or correlate to the video, it shouldn't be there.*/
[Visual Effects]

1. Too much brightness and contrast. In some cases it works very well and is even mandatory, but it most cases it just makes the video harder to see (i.e. frame whited out or completely black when it shouldn't be otherwise.)

2. Poorly executed 3d movements. Most Amvs don't utilize a 3d environment, but when they do it can be very powerful and fun to watch. However, if it isn't done right, it just takes you out of the immersion.

3. Colored flashes. Unless you are using colors as a mood setter/ motif, and is just there because it can be, it should just be a normal flash.

4. Poor text usage. Text in a video can be very powerful. A picture with no words and the same picture with words have two very different meanings. This means, if used poorly, it can ruin the entire mood and just distract you from the video when it is, instead, supposed to enhance the shot.

5. Like everyone else, poor uses of masks. Many different uses for masks, but again, needs to be used correctly to actually do any good.

/* The style/genre doesn't matter to me. A good video is a good video, regardless of its type. Similarly, a bad video is a bad video, regardless of its type.*/
[Style / Genre]

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

[Anime / Visual Source]

1. Bleach. Oh My god this anime overused. Bleach is not the problem here though; the problem is everyone uses the same scenes to the same type of song. Almost every bleach video I have seen looks exactly the same: there is no uniqueness to it.

2. Naruto. Same reasons as bleach, but to a lesser degree. Scenes are overused a lot, but those scenes offer much more variety in comparison to bleach (from what I have seen).

3.

4.

5.

[Additional Grievances]

1. Subtitles that aren't supposed to be in the video. 'Nuff said.

2.

3.

4.

[Visual Effects]

1. Shatter transition

2. 3D effects that seem out of place

3. Wipe transitions

4. If the effect is meant to alter the color or anything directly (add grains, color changes, etc)...I'd like for it to at least look somewhat decent

5. The quake/shake effect....could go well and could go wrong.

[Style / Genre]

1. Random Effects everywhere....Shit everywhere.....now I know we shouldn't give you a canvas and some paint

2. No story, no concept, or theme.....Some "random action" vids have a theme.

3. _____________________ <---something would be between these 2....

4. Romance done wrong. I'm a drama/romance editor myself....it isn't all about kissing and "Lovin', touchin', squeezin' each other"...I like character developement. Immersion is nice........

5.

[Anime / Visual Source]

1. Wrong AR

2. Interlacing

3. Watermarks

4. Not many things bother me.....

5. Shinkai....I'm actually tired of it....just a little :>

[Additional Grievances]

1. Take some time to pick your scenes....a 24 ep anime is a gold mine of scenes and usually I see the same shit in every amv of a particular anime. If you do some scene searching and actually manage to use a scene I don't see used often....then you get some points <3

2. COLOR....going from light to dark immediately. NO! Just make sure the color in your scenes transition well from one scene to another. Color theory? Is that what it's called.

3. Learn the genre you plan on editing.....there is the generic way or you can do something different. Even if that something different it is small....give it a shot.

4. Jadecavy, Darklydone, Evafan, and MystikAMV keep making fun of me  Make them stop?
