Chikane vs the World (2 Girls 1-UP)

Post by Cyrix » Mon Jun 13, 2011 1:13 am

Hello all, we made this for AX, but sadly did not make it to finals, so here's the video!

It's inspired by a certain film which you may be able to guess, be your powers of deduction sufficiently well endowed.

Oh, I love the music. The video was a lot of fun to make, hopefully it's fun to watch...

EDIT: This has been getting astoundingly nasty scores, but no comments besides Code. I appreciate the feedback, but I really can't improve if people don't explain what's wrong with the video (if it's anything besides what Code said). So written comments about what you thought was wrong with it would be very nice, I've already explained about all I felt I needed to, so I'm not going to argue with anyone.

#^!* Photobucket decided that having unlimited storage was better than keeping your images at the original resolution... those were 1600*900 wallpapers. I can put them on ImageShack if anyone wants the full size versions.

Dammit I forgot the credits... I'll have to add those later...

It was a little hard to follow at times, because I personally haven't seen the anime, and the story seemed to go back and forth at times. But that may just be me and my inability to have seen the anime. The story definitely seemed to shift around at times.

I have seen other AMVs with this source though, and I think I safely say this is one that probably did the anime the most justice, since it went outside its typically most often used scenes.

The text at :48ish was terrible. It went from vibrant to a straight black arial font. >_>

You had some issues with the left and right sidesof hte video having black bars at some points, and then being filled in at others.

I liked how you were able to utilize multiple audio sources, but the ones that starts at 2:00ish either had terrible audio quality, or was in dire need of a bass reduction. I had to take off my headphones at that point and switch to speakers.

The coin and fighter effects were nicely done. Looked VERY realistic, almost as if it was part of the anime itself.

The straight cuts that started at 4:14 really looked weird when compared to the rest of the video. It had a completely different flow, and the scenes transitioned to had little to nothing to do with the rest of the video. The fast cuts at the very end had a very similar effect.

Overall, interesting and I'm glad I watched it, since it was unique and did a fairly good job with the source.

Thanks Code. I was worried I tried to cram too much story (and cutting back and forth in the chronology) and it would be confusing, but by then it was too late :P . As for the bit at 4:14, what I was going for there was an anxiety-stricken panicky jumble of negative memories, as she thinks her developing relationship with Himeko has fallen apart.

I noticed and fixed the left and right side when I added the credits, I'll reupload it in a few days so the admins don't hate me for sucking extra bandwidth.

I don't know if you've seen Scott Pilgrim, but they run their whole band through a distortion pedal, so it sounds like that. They repeatedly state their band is terrible :P

Glad you liked the effects! Those were fun :D

I love the movie this poster is based off, so I must watch this when I get home.

Just finished watching it. I really enjoyed it, but I have to agree with Code that the story is a bit hard to follow and the best part is the Scott Pilgrim fight scene.

I hope to see this during the AX AMV Contest preshow at least. I'm sure the crowd will go wild over the Scott Pilgrim stuff. :)

Thanks Castor, that means a lot. I was starting to feel pretty crappy cuz it got a lot of 2s and 1s (seriously? a 1?) when I first postd it.
I'm sure the crowd will go wild over the Scott Pilgrim stuff.
That's what I was thinking :P . Do they let the people they select for the preshow know ahead of time? Or how they select people, for that matter.

Gonna post another entry next week, which I know you'll be interested in :D
