on a side note, the event's #1 priority, while still a competition, should be to entertain the audience. if you DQ an editor because they didn't render stuff out of AE before the time limit, you're only hurting the people who sat there for 3 hours expecting to see something cool but ended up seeing someone get DQd because of something minor.

I agree wholeheartedly. In my view, it should be nigh impossible to DQ a competitor unless they did one of two things: 1) Used less than three sources or didn't use the secret source. 2) Used a music track that was unplayably obscene. If those conditions are met, the video plays. It's in the judges' hands from there.

I think this simplifies things:

4) Competitors may edit until the last second, at which time nothing may be added, moved, or removed. The final projects shall then be output to a file for playback.

I was getting too technical previously. But hey, I'm a tech guy. Technical is what I do.

1. Regarding the points, I have no problem with points but are the points divided between two videos or is it out of a maximum number of points? I.e. can I give a video a 10 out of 15 and another an 8 out of 15 or do I have to divide it and say go 10 and 5? Personally I prefer the later system for IE because the subjectiveness of point value becomes less of a factor (to get what I'm talking about consider aggregate review scores out of 100 - to some people a 50 is average but to some a 70 is average which means the two in an aggregate scoring system don't quite balance each other out regarding what the reviewer actually thought of it).

Actually, it was Brad's idea, and a very good one IMO. He wanted to mimic the judging methodology used on Iron Chef.

While there's not a whole lot of ways to do this event differently from Iron Editor®, we'd prefer to mimic Iron Chef more closely.

Heck, I could shorten it to just "Competitors may edit until the last second". The rest is obvious. But frankly, all the wordy rules and stuff is more for the benefit of curious people who want to know how things are run. And, sometimes in life, people need to be told the obvious.

On the subject, it would probably be a good idea to define what each merit actually means. I think we all have different definitions for "technical" and "artistic" but also how do you determine how much a video adheres to the theme and what does "use of secret ingredient" actually mean? Does it mean how much of it was used? This should help the judges score each video but more importantly help the editors have a better idea of what the judges will actually be looking for.

I have to say, i'm actually excited, i hope this year goes well.
