A schizo twofer!

Post by CorpseGoddess » Tue Apr 19, 2011 2:10 am

My latest two videos, radically different from each other.

It's okay, go ahead and get the snickering out of the way now--that's everybody's initial reaction. That, or "huh?" But I'd had this idea rattling around in my head for about 3 years, and it was finally ready to come out. This video was a real departure for me--almost entirely abstract, no lip synch, no storyline. Just Kusanagi and her inner universe. I was pleased with the final result, and utterly gobsmacked when it won Judges' Best in Show at Tekkoshocon this year.

This one hit me like a lightning bolt while listening to my iPod. It was the ring imagery first, of course, but then the rest of it just fell into place. I did this one right after Motoko flow; I think the abstract angle of that video helped me approach this one in a much less linear way than a lot of my previous vids. I certainly got more creative with how I layered clips here than I ever have before. I'm really proud of this little video and I enjoy it a lot.

As always, comments and critique are welcome. :awesome:

I still mean it when I say that Single Lady Utena is possibly one of my favorite Utena videos to this date. It was a shame that it lost at Tekko. ;___; But speaking from a non fanboy standpoint, I suppose that it was a tad too literal with the rings at times and just a little static at times as well. I also felt the ending was kind of anti-climatic and had the same flow as the rest of the video instead of a real climax. But on the whole, it was EXTREMELY enjoyable to watch a non serious and more whimsical Uteri video. :D I highly reccomend it to everyone.

Thanks, Code. :D It was fun to do something lighthearted with Utena for a change (that wasn't a perverse AMV Hell clip). And I totally get what you're saying about the ending--I actually had that feeling myself. When I got around to editing the end of the song, I was like, "What the--hey, Beyonce, get back here and finish your damn song!" It just sort of ends, and the official video does as well. I wasn't really sure what to do with it myself. But thank you for the recommendation!

Yeah, it's definitely one of the weirder ones I've dreamed up. So glad you liked it, though. Thank you!
