Also I do want to point out that I do think it is very cool you're going to do HD. My commentary so far is with the best intents; mind you some snark. My snark is there because imo I think the digital formatting rules could be written vastly better to be more commensurate with the technical standards of the display you plan to run.

From the guy that runs tech for AB (and Otakon IIRC) http://dtvideolabs.com/PlaybackPro.html is the platform they're using for playback.

I do not mind at all. I consider myself a realist. Realistically, we are still a ways off from the day when HD is standard. Though I do believe that day is coming closer. In the meantime I shall do what I can to encourage it.

And that being said, a little over two weeks is remaining until the March 5th Deadline! Anime Boston wants and needs your entries!

ugh.. so you want us to re-size our videos and make it look uglier. Say if I have a source that I'm editing with, but it looks great in 848x480, Your just asking to upscale it to 1280x720. That wont look pretty. But hey if you want it in that resolution..fine I'll upscale my video for you.

You don't have to. You can submit it as is - it'll look like you put an AddBorders(216, 120, 216, 120) in your post-processing script. You can also just do the AddBorders() yourself to see what it looks like.

Don't know what that is. I don't see how a 848x480 can't be full screen on a monitor.

read AbsoluteDestiny & ErMaC's Technical Guides to All Things Audio and Video

Here's an example of how it would look: Image
I don't see how a 848x480 can't be full screen on a monitor.
Aside #1: It's not playing on a monitor. It's playing through a set of 4 (10,000 lumen last year) HD projectors.
Aside #2: Monitors have had full screen resolutions greater than that for over 20 years.
Aside #3: If the playback equipment were to play your 848x480 video full-screen through the HD projector, it would have to upscale it anyways - making it look just as bad (or worse) than you doing it yourself.

Real answer - if you want it to be full screen, you resize it. If you don't, don't.

Alright then I'll just re-size it. Somebody gave me a script thing so I should be able to upscale my video without losing that much quality. But thanks again for showing me this, I understand what you mean now.

I would suggest Re-sizing it regardless... If there is any audiance voting, it might not get as much votes when only filling half a screen (Yea, I know, that should not be like that, but that's the way it is)
