Reminds me of seeing people misspell Elfen Lied's title as 'Elfen Leid' and laughing to myself, because while wrong, it still makes perfect sense considering the series.

(for those that don't get it, "Lied" = "song", "Leid" = "sorrow", and the pronunciation is also completely different, from each other and from how the show's title is usually said by English speakers)

Sadly, my German has suffered immensely in the years since high school ended. I still occasionally surprise myself, though (seven years' worth of study doesn't just go 'poof' and disappear). I don't even count my two years of French in 9th and 10th grade, because I absolutely sucked at it aside from the pronunciation. Compare: by senior year, I reached a point where I didn't have to translate between German and English in my head, but the best I can remember from French class is 'Je mange au chat', which I wrote down on a test as the answer to 'I feed the cat'. No, instead I wrote 'I eat the cat'.
