I just wanted to thank everyone involved for the live streaming of the AMV contest. While I was imagining a crowd shot - watching the screen type of thing, seeing the videos and hearing the audience react was very cool. I heard the crowd enjoying my video (and others as well of course). I heard applause after mine! I enjoyed it greatly.

Thanks again!!

It was good to see the recording of the contest. I was glad to hear the audience applause.

How did judging work? I confess I felt very confused by some of the results.... especially hearing U Robot as an honorable mention in comedy. (I thought it clearly drama), and A[part] an honorable mention in drama, when I thought it was sentimental...

I am as stunned as you are. I guess a little lecture would'nt hurt.

Amv-Canada was created about 3 years ago. It had the purpose of expanding amv making in Canada and organising amv contest across anime conventions. It had passionated members running the contest for the 2 last years with an objective way. Even with all the accumulated glory, there was one major flaw: a total lack of members joining forces. This was mainly due to the fact that the community did not really attracted people, amv popularity is quite low and because of linguistic barrier (the forum is bilingual but let's face it, we mostly speak french there).

And then, we started losing members with the time and well....there is no more staff and president really in charge of amv-canada now. At least, we had some good time nehehe.

The judges for this year edition were people from G-anime staff and I think only one of them actually does amv. I have not a single idea how things were judged for category or watsoever thing...

At least, some fellas kept the contest alive. This is how thing rolls, don't hate the people, hate the game instead. :asd:

Well, that's very interesting...

Actually, AMVs at cons have been quite alive in Western Canada... Anime Evolution over the past few years has had the largest AMV Room in Canada (up to 600 cap) and attendance at the contest was equal to Cosplay last year... Both Animethon and Otafest in Alberta have major AMV Programming with big attendances...

All of these I've have been heavily involved in running and it does take a ton of effort for success, but I think it all depends on how things are approached.

hmm...

I think somewhere on the amv-france forum I read that there were 4 judges. ... Well I don't hate the judges. I disagree with them, and wonder about a couple factors that may have biased their approach, but they did their part to keep the contest alive, and since it was scheduled at the very end of the convention I guess it would have been impossible for the audience to vote for everything.

Hopefully a better system, (or bigger pool of judges) can be found for next year.

@Vlad G Pohnert : Guess Eastern Canada has not turned that way yet....Quebec region just had it's third convention recently (with no amv contest). Im not really involved in conventions, I wish I could find time to do so; so many conventions has their own amv contest...yet even with all their good intentions, it's sometime nowhere close to acceptable.

@Warlike Swans : Im pretty sur im the one who said that  . In the live, you hear it anyway hehehe.

Now that the results are up on amv-canada....

I wish G-AMV had been a showing rather than a contest... I would have still submitted, the audience reaction was great... but the all-over-the-place judging bugs me more than it should. I thought the normal categories were mutually exclusive (eg sentimental and drama)... I can't see the relation between the ranks and the category awards...

oh well.
