Get over it and move on. This is a supremely silly topic to make a thread about.
It's not like you would have spent that 12 bucks on anything but soda and bubblegum anyway.

Then why hasn't every soda/bubblegum buying user donated already?NME wrote:It's not like you would have spent that 12 bucks on anything but soda and bubblegum anyway.

Re: Guess this means we don't need donations all that much,
I don't think this forum was ever particularly an incentive so much as a courtesy - I'd really be surprised if this was the reason people were donating. The 10th anniversary thing is, likewise, just that - a courtesy to the membership. Hopefully at some point it will also be followed by a donation drive - I honestly don't think keeping a locked-up forum was the best fundraising strategy, and this is part of revising it in the long run.

Indeed. I mean, what better way to celebrate a 10-year anniversary than a massive and completely non-committal spamming spree?
Seriously, I hope this forum turns out to be a productive part of the forums and the intention behind opening the donator forum, rather than starting from scratch, is to have discussions already in place and the tone of the place established in order to encourage reasonably civil discussion. If there's a demand for it, it's not especially difficult to have a closed donator forum again, but I honestly don't think very many people would prefer it over an open one.

Re: Guess this means we don't need donations all that much,
Honestly, the donators were barely using it anyways. Also, with how much spam that kept popping out elsewhere on the forums, we need this to be public. Also, just because one incentive for donators is gone, doesnt mean that other perks for donators wont be made in the future. I'm not saying that there should be a direct replacement for this, but knowing that the site is changing and expanding, it will happen eventually.
I think a public general forum like this will help build the community better and get people to stick around. It will help attract more users to be active on the forums and that will benefit the Org more than a donator's forum. So dont say "Guess this means we don't need donations all that much, huh?" See this as part of the reformulation that's going to make the Org better and get more people involved. If more people are involved, more people donate.
