We should start taking editing requests from anime fans who cant edit too.

Then that guitar thingies popped up and went dun dun DUN dun then those box thingies went zooming by and twirling around and shit. Oh god, then the hexagons popped up and I was like 'I just got a stiffie'. Then there was the circle with those thingies going around and I blew my load.

[Edit]
I have an idea, why don't you guys suggest what sayings you would like to see on a banner and us banner makers can make them into decent looking banners and see if they get worthy.
this will work great.

as long as the saying is simple and heartwarming in either a cutesy or a reflective way, and the image is cute.

funny pun-like sayings and images work too, as long as they're pretty conservative and straight-forward. and cute.

I wasn't asking to be "original" when I suggested people tell me what they would like to have on a banner, I was just saying that if people were going to complain about what is currently on the banners, then they should tell me what they would like to see, and I can try to make it happen.

Also, one banner saying gets successful and every other banner maker copies it, that's how it's worked in the past.

I have, and I do on occasion if the fancy strikes me.
5 of my videos were actual requests from friends/family/a person on the forum. The idea for 1 of my videos was drastically modified by another person to be more original than what I was gonna do. 5 of my videos the ideas were presented by someone else, and I filled in what they needed.

On another note though, what would you possibly want to see in banners? Banners kind of have a narrow function as a promotional tool, and there's only so much that can be done within that frame, before they become something other than banners. If you're looking for ART, perhaps the top of a website concerned mostly with establishing a logo+identity is not the place to look for it. And conversely, to people coming in from outside to look at the site, a schizophrenic artfag identity is also not the best way to position the site. Even if many of us fit that description.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I'd like to see banners that play on anime in-jokes in order to catch the attention of casual anime fans who may not know much about amvs. Like this one:
Image
I've had so many visitors to my site remark on that banner, leading to questions about the org, and then any recommendations I might have to Sasuke-centric amvs. This is the sort of advertisement I'd like to see more of on the org.

I'm not against pretty girls in general. I just wish there were more anime girls. You know, girls from a recognizable anime, maybe paired up with a line that ties into that anime. Like a picture of Sakura saying 'shannaro' for whatever reason, or Bulma leading Vegeta by the nose to toward the org banner. Stuff that's funny and cute and anime fans will get and smile at. The anime-style girls aren't from actual anime, they're just pretty nameless faces. And since you're not going to find many amvs featuring these girls, they don't really represent the amvs here. I'd like to see a scene from the infamous Goku vs Majin!Vegeta fight, a flash to some quirky "new generation" transition, and then a scene from the Naruto vs level2!Sasuke fight (bonus points if the guys are in a similar pose in the two clips), and then a "now available at your local amv-org" title card. I just want more anime and amv related banners and less "pretty face + generic saying" greeting card type deals.

And before it's asked, yeah, I tried making banners once. Oh my god did I suck at it. I have nothing but respect for the skills it takes to make a nice looking banner. I can't do that. That's why I don't say a word about the quality/photoshopping that went into creating the banners. I'm just commenting on the content, from an 'advertising the org' standpoint, mainly. I've had the same few banners on my site for years because there just aren't any like that anymore. Or, if there are, they get replaced as soon as a new logo comes out and I never even see them.

Which reminds me, is there any way to browse through all the banners made over the years? I really miss some of my old favorites and wish I'd make copies of them before they were hidden away wherever it is banners for the old logos go... [Nevermind, I found it. ;p]

I do that all the time, it's just that when I do it nobody notices, usually, so why bother doing that excessively? :<

You mean making anime/amv related banners? Or taking 'requests' from non-banner makers? Either way, was it fun for you? I'd say because it's fun and people like looking at and using them, but if you don't enjoy it and don't get feedback (or worthy votes), then I guess there's no point.

I'd still like to see more of them. Because anime fans get a kick out of them. I just paged through the banners until my eyeballs hurt, but I found some gems. These are the sort of banners I like best because they appeal to my inner fangirl, make me smile, and make anime fans ask me about the org, which lets me prod them toward my favorite editors and vids. To me, that's the main point of banners. Getting people's attention, garnering interest, and letting you toss them toward the org while they still have that smile on their faces.

These all appeal to the anime fan's fondness of the characters/series used, while also having something to do with amvs (except the second one, which I couldn't resist including here just because it's so darn cute and simple). It's weird that there are so few of them. Scrolling through that archive shows just how rarely actual anime characters are featured in banners. It gets more common the further back you go, while it's less common today. Why? Do we like anime characters less today than we did back then?
