The Grandfather IV

Post by Mastamind » Sun Oct 24, 2010 8:14 pm

I like to think of this as my second video, as my latest one was completed shortly before I finished this one. I woulda loved more time to work on this video, but I entered it late to the Crossover contest as it was...

And if you care to see a "behind the scenes" perspective...

Yeah, I know I forgot to put Naruto and Rebuild of Evangelion in the credits and that there are bugs in the "making of"... I might fix them in the future when I don't have the pressure of finishing my Akross video :roll: All feedback is appreciated- I love opinions and constructive feedback to reflect on as an editor |:>

the concept was superb, the edition way cool, but I really don´t like so many fades or the flashes, kinda ironic to have such a good rotoscoping but bad transitions xD.

4/5 gud gud :up:

I've always been notorious for hating black fades. But I'll restrain myself from verbally assaulting them and review the actual content of the video. XD

________________

I was really impressed at how you were able to merge together so many different anime and make them look so seamlessly linked. When I first saw Death Note with Baccano, my first reaction was "Well shit. There goes that video" Boy was I wrong. The masking was FANTASTIC. It looked almost merged with the anime themselves. I nearly shat myself when I saw it was actually like 6-7 anime, and not just 2. Nicely done. That must have taken MONTHS to get that perfect.

The storytelling was very impressive. Storytelling in AMVs is hard enough with actual vocal lyrics, but you managed to do it with Instrumental music. HOT DAMN. <3

The editing was consistently well done, and did well to match the music with the flow of the scenery on-screen. However, I have to admit that the black fades around 1:15-1:30 was a tad overkill. I understand that it was done to help advance the story and to break the flow of time, but I still felt it was a tad much. That's just a personal issue with me, so please don't take it personally. XD The rest of the black fades, I genuinely loved and enjoyed. That's a high compliment from me. xD

I was also impressed with the intergration of the few effects tidbits here and there. The newspapers, the information cards.

Oh, CLIFFHANGAR ENDING WHRRRRRRRRRRRY. ;____;

Also, pretty credits. :up:

5/5

Best Storytelling 2010. You've got my vote.

It was painstaking, but I think the months of scene selection was worth it. And yeah, I probably should have mixed up the transitioning at that part, but after trying just crossfades or hardcuts I decided the fades looked best. Thanks for your critique and opinions. :awesome:

for stoytelling I consider way better to use hard cuts, actually give the impression of watching a normal movie, and the excess kills the times when you actually can use fades in a good way, maybe you should let sync to make a pleasant vid to watch, but is a minor issue this is really cool stuff :up: :up:
