Re: What if AMVs were made legal?
this is like legalizing marijuana. I am against legalizing marijuana, sure it may be safer than smoking or drinking, but do you really want being a pothead to be easy and to see marijuana next to cigarettes in stores? I've never done drugs, but legalizing marijuana does more harm then good, if we legalize things that just harm society, no matter how fucked up the government makes society, it won't make anything better for anyone, AMVs violate international copyright law, and if we ever do find alsatia, there will be no such thing as property. Virtual material is still material of value, and until there is some barrier to virtual crime that exists like current IRL burglary statutes exist, nothing will change. I rather live in a world where 95% of my time I am breaking the law and they are silly laws that won't get me put in jail, than in a world where I have to kill to survive, carry a gun with me, and where the police are more crooked than gangsters. In other words, I like things the way they are. Having a corrupt judicial, executive, and legislative branch of government is better than anarchy.

If AMVs were legalized, everybody would stop doing them.

Re: What if AMVs were made legal?
Contrarily, I think the AMV scene would just continue on as is depending on restrictions after legalization.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

Re: What if AMVs were made legal?
That would assume the initial premise of illegality was a sound one. IIRC legality is a distinction made of criminal behavior and is therefore an inappropriate term to use when discussion civil charges. To that end, AMVs are both criminally legal and civilially infringement... in the US at least.gotegenks wrote:i was making an allusion to bein a gangster http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiX7GTelTPMBasharOfTheAges wrote:What, exactly, do the police have to do with civil (i.e. not criminal) complaints?

I haven't read this thread but, if amvs were legal it'll still be the same except we wouldn't have to worry about this site possibly getting shut down. Hell, half the creators would prolly be like "lol, it was illegal?"

Then that guitar thingies popped up and went dun dun DUN dun then those box thingies went zooming by and twirling around and shit. Oh god, then the hexagons popped up and I was like 'I just got a stiffie'. Then there was the circle with those thingies going around and I blew my load.

that's an ignorant opinion based on what you backed it up with.kickass331 wrote:this is like legalizing marijuana.
but uh, i really don't think it would make a difference to any amv community. and it would require legalizing copyright infringement, so it's also unlikely. but most copyright holders don't consider it worth while to pursue any case involving amvs, so it wouldn't be a big deal.

looking back, i hate marijuana more for the drug rings, terrorists, organized crime, etc. of course i alluded to that with alsatia but most people wouldn't get thatinsomniac wrote:that's an ignorant opinion based on what you backed it up with.kickass331 wrote:this is like legalizing marijuana.
