He just did what everyone else has been doing for like six years ... telling people to stop fighting. Unless I missed him turning into jesus and saving the world ...

Jimmy Carter won in 2002. Al Gore won in 2007. Now Obama has won in 2009. I'm sensing a trend here. Perhaps the prize should be renamed to the 'He's not Bush' award since that's really the only accomplishment those three have managed. Well, maybe Carter's was deserved. He has tried to do a lot of good since he left the White House. He has actually achieved much, but he has tried.downwithpants wrote:our president won the nobel peace prize for 2 months of service. Oddly a couple weeks ago I was reading an article that pointed out in other fields such as physics the winner is rewarded for achievements decades old. That way they have the perspective of time to see if those achievements actually had any influence or were eventually proven to be a crackpot theory. The prize for Lit and Peace don't have that delay, so it ends up being a lot more politicized. Arafat and Kissinger for example both won because they promised to stop bombing civilians (not that Arafat actually kept his promise).
Anyway, lesson of the day is if you want to win a Nobel Peace Prize then you need to either be a democrat US politician or kill a bunch of random people then promise to stop at some vague point in the future.

Sad thing is most of us citizens deserve one just for not raging up till this point.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

I'm patriotic... to the human race.
I could write a novel here, but I'll just simply say that yes, I love this country, I love my home and I am continually thankful for everything I have, but I am continually saddened by the insane greed. EVERYTHING stems from it.
