Ryan's lesson on humanity.
People always look for what's wrong. It's in their nature.. now find out what most people are truly guilty of. This is from the famous Dr David D, Burns M.D
One of the people who helped me on the right path worked under Dr Burns and has taught me a lot about myself and others. Dr Burns wrote a book called Feeling Good. A book that is said to be Clinically Proven to stop depression, without the needs of drugs(hey man.. stop drinking so much! lol). Everytime I hint Ideas from this book when I'm outside my house and socializing.. I get yelled at or screamed at. This book is hard for me to read because it loves to tell me I'm wrong about things
Here are the cognitive distortions that you probably have.

I have more to add later.. expect an update.
Important update for those who like to find out what's wrong with them..
"Understanding Your Moods: You Feel the Way You Think"
Do you know why people get depressed? It's all perspective
Depression has been viewed as an emotional disorder throughout the history of psychiatry, therapists from most schools of thought place a strong emphasis on "getting in touch" with your feelings. Our research reveals the unexpected: Depression is not an emotional disorder at all! The sudden change in the way you feel is of no more casual relevance than a runny nose is when you have a cold. Every bad feeling you have is the result of your distorted negative thinking. Illogical pessimistic attitudes play the central role in the development and continuation of all your symptoms.
Intense negative thinking always accompanies a depressive episode, or any painful emotion for that matter. Your moody thoughts are likely to be entirely different from those you have when you are not upset...
Negative thoughts that flood your mind are the actual cause of your self-defeating emotions. These thoughts are what keep you lethargic and make you feel inadequate. Your negative thoughts, or cognitions, are the most frequently overlooked symptoms of your depression. Stop beating yourself up you moron. These cognitions contain the key to relief and are therefore your most important symptoms.

That just looks like complaints of the legal and political systems of the world. >___>
Also, aren't the majority of those.. You know... Part of being human? I seriously doubt its something that can be 100% controlled.

You are right.. it's part of being human.. and partly the need to fix things and focus on the negative.. it's no wonder you are not enjoying yourself at a party.Code wrote:x_rex30 wrote: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_distortion

Also, from looking back to how I was raised, mainly by conservative beliefs.. that is also an offender.
Read the book, study Buddhism(Preferably Zen Buddhism), seek some time for only yourself.. and you'll realize, most of us have thought disorders. The ones that think they don't are actually the most guilty IMO.

Re: Ryan's lesson on humanity.
If people lived in a bubble, I think 'perspective' would be the absolute answer to emotional states, moods and so forth, that's true. The problem is that people live in a complex social world, and imho in many cases feeling in a particular way is a natural reaction and shouldn't be suppressed by going to lala-land (meditation, nirvana, state of grace, whatever you call it). I don't think telling the world to shove it and doing your own thing is a good solution, or a solution in any sense, since it's rather irresponsible.
Depression-wise, I personally believe that it's an overdiagnosed cultural fad in many ways, something that perhaps most of people who claim to have it actually don't. But that doesn't mean that it's something that is easy to reverse in general. There are people whose brain chemistry can't really be appeased by snapping fingers and saying everything is fine. Then there is external reasons, the most general of which is alienation, something that is socially very prevalent nowadays and arguably necessary for the capitalist society not to fall flat on its ass. Things like that are not cognitive distortion, they are fairly real and people shouldn't convince themselves they aren't. Sadly, some do.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

you make a good post and I have no reason to argue with it, unless for the sake of arguing.
Anyway.. I got to get to the VA as soon as possible tomorrow and here I am wasting my time typing.
Good night!

You know I started to type up the exact same thing in my last post (in the manic thread) but deleted it before sending itOtohiko wrote:Depression-wise, I personally believe that it's an overdiagnosed cultural fad in many ways, something that perhaps most of people who claim to have it actually don't. Anyway now I don't feel so inhumane ^.^ lol awesome -_-.
And Code is saying the exact same thing! lol if being wrong feels this good than I don't ever want to be right ^.^ I mean don't get us wrong, depression is a real thing, but many ppl just take it way too far and end up being depressed about depression (or overdiagnosed) rather than just depressed.
Actually I don't find that very often but it is something that can and does happen. (in my own very unprofesional opinion.) and in the other thread I was just saying we can help if one is depressed about depression (IE rant threads ^.^) but if one is diagnosed I wouldn't attempt to help with the depression itself lol. I just tend to not say what I mean BUT mean what I say. It's a difficult matter that I've mastered over the years ^.^
If you do not think so... you will DIE
