New Mv: Advent Children to the tune of Last Resort!

Post by DeadDancer » Fri Dec 04, 2009 8:45 pm

Uh, hello!

Newbie here!

Just announcing I have a new MV up. It's taken solely from the movie Advent Children, set to the tune of Papa Roach's Last Resort.

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... p?v=173192

The lyrics are tied into the plot, generally, but mostly it's just a bit of fun action.. and 'the movie in 2 minutes or less' perhaps. :)

I'm a fan of rapid changes but I'm currently using Windows Movie Maker which doesn't like me making any short cuts, so I hope that turns out alright.

I'd appreciate any constructive criticisim. This *is* just a hobby, but I like learning new things!

Cheers!

Nah, I'm not interested in buying any extra software for something that is simply a hobby. I like making them and I like sharing them - simple as that!

It is a pity that my first experience with this website is someone who abuses the first 'Ethic rule' "Thou shalt be courteous at all times" but such is life, I suppose.

Don't worry that guy's a fucking retard, I'll watch your video and get back to you with something CONSTRUCTIVE. YOU HEAR THAT POTTU?! CONSTRUCTIVE, DICKFACE.

Update:

Okay I just watched your video; this was actually surprisingly good. You got pretty playful with some of the lyrical sync, your video was watchable: by this I mean you weren't spamming effects and your cuts were long enough that you could actually see what was going on. I'd complain about the overuse of fades but it seemed to work so well here I really can't. Now brace yourself for areas where you can improve.

First of all I'd recommend reading the guides here on the site. You can find them on the side bar of the main page, or you can just go here:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/

Most specifically I'd recommend reading this one:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech3/

It'll give you some really helpful information on some technical things, like what your aspect ratio is and things like that. Yours is very wrong in this video. Advent Children is supposed to be 16:9 but this video is in 4:3, which is actually a common mistake among starting editors anyway so I wouldn't worry too much about it. The only other issue I had with this video was the actual artistic merit of it. Combining such a common song with such a common source might have worked in 2004 but we're all a little more pretentious around here than we used to be, so maybe try to artsy up your combinations a little more. If you don't feel that drawn to anime, don't force yourself to watch it just to keep editing. You can always pick up editing with live action and the process is just as enjoyable, although the community is a little smaller.

In short you've got a ways to go, but reading some of those guides will only take up some of your time, and none of your money, and that's why we have hobbies in the first place: because we have time. So get to reading and enjoy yourself, and if you have any questions you can hit me with a PM on here any time you feel the urge. Sorry your welcome here wasn't exactly pleasant, and I wish you all the best in the rest of your editing career.

You're gonna see alot of that here, so just be prepared for it.
Anyway, it's actually surprising to see a windows movie maker video up on here. Reminds me of some of my old stuff only...Less...Bad XD

I can't really say anything that Reda hasn't already said in the post above. So Just keep at it, You'll get there.

Wow, thank you very much for replying.

Special thanks to Reda - I really appreciate your comments, both supportive and critical.

I hadn't thought of the aspect ratio at all! It's only now that you mention it that I realise it had been changed. Of course, I have a 4:3 TV anyway so I'm not used to seeing things in 16:9

I'll be reading those guides straight after this. In response to Cenit's suggestion that it would be difficult to learn new things without buying new software.. well, this is exactly the sort of thing I want to learn that costs nothing. Pacing, over-reliance on timing, song choice, video choice - such basic things to you guys, but I am a Newbie mc Newb.

I was aware from the start that my song choice is common - I readily confess that all my MVs have equally common songs. I will make a concious effort to seek out the more obscure music in my archives and see if I can't change it up a little in future.

Regarding source files... I will bear the fact that FF is done to death in the back of my mind :) and hope that my new classmates can expose me to newer anime. That I can borrow. Without paying for. :D

Cheers again for all your help!

I must say. A rather simple video. Enjoyable. And a nice break from all the effectsy video's I've gotten used to seeing around here XD

WMM....wow...haha. Takes me back. This is actually better than my first WMM video. Believe it or not, my first AMV ever was a combination of two anime that just don't go together. Haha. "Naruto and Gundam Wing" to the song "Before I Forget" by Slipknot. I laugh just thinking about it.

Still, what -Reda- says pretty much hits the mouse on the nose. I wish you luck in your future editing endeavors. I'm sorry your first time here had to be harsh, but your gonna get a lot of it here...whether you want it or not. Still....welcome to the org XD
